how can you believe in God given all of the evidence that he's either not out there or that He/She doesn't care?

The evidence I'm talking about is all of the suffering and cruelty humans endure. The fact that our scientific conception/understanding of the universe is far more vast than the box we traditionally put God in. The fact that virtually every human society has some form of religion and that Christianity seems to be our choice. Don't you think humans created God in our image instead of vice/versa?

He cares and He is out there.

Life is a movie. God planned the perfect script in which all would be perfect and no one would get hurt. Unfortunately, his competition (Satan) convinced the actors to throw away the script and do their own thing. The result? As you can see, things aren't exactly going into the perfect plan. That's why you see the suffering in the world.

But God is still making the best out of a fallen world. He has a Plan B. The problem is that no one is bothering to listen. Those supposedly telling others of the Plan B are getting corrupted by the power and money. Those following the new script are still human and are currently making mistakes as we speak.

The problem isn't God. It's humans. We make mistakes. We screw up. That's our nature. We can't (or just don't want to) follow orders, even for our own good. God didn't plan us (humans and Satan) on being this way. We just decided to be this way. That's the problem.

I hope this helps you and clears things up for you. Thanks for asking. You made me actually think about an important I haven't thought about in many years. Thanks... Take care and God bless.

Oh yeah, here's a website with the evidence for God's existence: www.GodAndScience.Org .
Also, I recommend you listening to Ravi Zacharias, an atheist that turned Christian. Please hear our what he has to say. He really makes me think.
The books of the skeptic Lee Strobel investigate the scientific proofs for God.
Francis Schaeffer is a good philosopher to read, too.

Peace!
It's more like he doesn't care, but that theory is not exactly right. He is not a God who will right every wrong in our world because he gave us free will. He gave us his laws so that we can live in peace and no one will be in need. It is not God who is at fault; it is the human race.
Now to your first question. The evidence is everywhere. Look around you. The order in nature and the universe is overwhelming evidence a Supreme Being exists. Einstein said something like that.
But I can give even better proof - Jesus Christ. The Word of God became man not only to redeem lost humanity but also to prove that God exists. No human being has been able to:
Silence a typhoon
Walk on water
Bring back dead people to life
Turn water into wine
Multiply a few loaves of bread and fishes in order to feed 5,000 people
Restore sight to the blind
Rise from the dead
These miracles prove that Jesus had power over life and death and the forces of nature. Only a God can do that. What more proof do you want?
Have a great day

He cares very much and there is evidence that he is there small and large. Just ask him for help and I promise he will be there. He is with us all the time but he is invisible and we must first ask him for help before he will give it. It's all apart of our free will, he will hardly ever come in your life uninvited. He is always doing things in our lives that we cannot see but he is always looking out for us even when it seems he forgot about us.

The fact is that we are all here on earth to have a hard life, nobody has it easy. The bible says we must all have our share of sorrows. It is to make us stronger and eventually bring us closer to God. The earth is placed just in the right spot in between the moon and sun so we can survive on this planet and he has the earth set up so that seeds can be planted and plants can grow over and over so we can eat and live. There are tons of meteors and asteroids that could kill us all out there but they won't because God is in control. He only allows bad things to happen to good people because he knows in his infinite wisdom that it will help someone or many people for the better.

Are you intentionally stating something in contradiction to what Christians always say? Because I think the opposite is actually true. Everything I see is evidence of the love, grace, mercy and justice of God. Because we have free agency/will people often look at all the pain and suffering and say there can't be a God, but it is because of God we have this freedom, and it is because He loves us He doesn't typically interfere. Also, because He has answered my prayers in undeniable fashion, I could never deny or question His existence.

In the beginning God completely sustained His creation without blemish. That’s why it was perfect. He held every atom together in a perfect state. He kept the planets in their orbits. He kept animals from tripping and breaking their necks. He did not allow people to suffer and die.
Deuteronomy 8:4 gives us a little glimpse of how things might have been in the original creation. “Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.” God is omnipotent and perfectly capable of sustaining and protecting his creation.
When Adam sinned, however, the Lord cursed the universe. In essence there was a change and along with that change God seemingly took away a little bit of his sustaining power and allowed things like suffering and death into His creation. Now He permits bad things to happen—and this is a reminder that sin has consequences and that the world needs a Savior. Romans 8:22 says, “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.”

God took pleasure in all of His creation ("http://bible.gospelcom.net/bible?passage=revelation+4:11&version=NKJV"), but He loved people most of all. He allowed the created universe to deteriorate so we would see the consequences of our sin. If we did not see the consequences of our sin, we would never see that we need salvation from our sin, and we would never accept His offer of mercy for our sin. Most people easily recognize that there is a problem in the world. This can be used to show them that there is one who has overcome this problem of death and suffering—Jesus Christ.

There is plenty of evidence that God exists...its called the bible. Great point of refference.

The importance of being saved through Jesus Christ will allow for all "worldly" concerns to be overlooked.

If God didn't care he would not have given his only begotten Son as a sacrifice for our sins.

There is a way and its through Christ.

You mean all the evidence that He cares enough not to spoil me rotton, and enough to let me make some of my own mistakes - I call that being a good Father, this way I get to learn a thing or two.

Odd, I often wonder how Atheists can deny God when there is so much to prove that He does exisit and cares so much.
I see it everyday and in a thousand different ways.

all of what you said is nice, but it leaves out one thing. What are some people experiencing at conversion if there is no God? Why did my life change? Why did my thinking change? I hope I wasn't brainwashed.....
