my bro is getting a downpipe for his supra and he tells me what it does but i still don't get it lol so maybe if someone explains a little more specific then i will get it idk i am just now learning about cars

and is it supposed to be loud when you take off fast cause his sounds like a freaking mopar car

a down pipe lets the exaust out of the turbo..........




im pretty sure thats what it is





what your talking about when hes taking off is a bov(blow off valve)

it gives you that chhhh when u shift

It connects the manifold (first bit of exhaust pipe) that's bolted to the engine to the rest of the exhaust system under the car. Turbo cars have the turbo between the manifold and downpipe.

People replace them because most aftermarket exhaust systems don't include one, and leave the standard original in place.

I've heard that a lot of Toyota's require back pressure in their exhaust systems in order to run optimally. If you put a down pipe under there (or an exhaust) it might do more harm than good. You might want to let him know.
