My friend went to AIT for (B31). He joined Oct 06 on a 2 year contract. He told me when he gets out. He does NOT have to go over seas or anything. I am very confused!!! He told me, after AIT he will be home and nothing will be changed. What does he mean?!

Cause I've heard they get sent somewhere. Does it ALWAYS happen, that they go over seas?

IRAQ HERE I COME. In the military, there is no gurantee on anything, let alone not being deployed.

My 22 year old son who has just returned from his second tour of duty over in Iraq is under the same delusion, that he can't be sent overseas a third time since he's sure he read that in the contract. Of course, daddy can't educate his own, but, if they're going to keep you in reserves as he's in, what does he think they're "reserving" him for. A tea party? I don't think so. He may not return overseas, which will please him and me both, but he is in the Army RESERVES after completing 4 years active duty, so, again, what does he think they're "reserving" him for. It certainly isn't for a vacation in the Bahamas! Maybe darchangel_3's answer has it right: Maybe " . . . he's just lying to you to make you feel better". But, since my son is telling the same story, I think neither of them has read the contract very closely, and reading is not my son's favorite pasttime, I can guarantee you. God Bless you.

hos overall training center will be in his hometown and he is declared as reserves.. of course the reserves get deployed .. many are in Iraq right now.. but if there is no war going on, they spend their time at home and only meet one weekend a month and 2 weeks during the summer for training... otherwise he can work a regular job and live at home likereal people do.... am ex military and have trained many reservists and national guard..

It tells me he didnt read the fine print of the contract.. any military under certain circumstances 9like the one we have now) can be deployed in a combat zone or overseas.. either that or hes just lying to you to make you feel better.. hell even after yer out they can recall you under certain circumstances.. even at my age if it gets bad enuff.. and I'm 47 and i have the dubious experience of having both being enlisted and Civil service (now retired) If they want they can legally send me to bagdad tomorrow if it gets that bad under either..

Some soldiers serve their entire 2 years in the states. I was one.

he doesnt necessarily have to go overseas when he gets back home from training
but he failed to tell you that he has an 8 year obligation to the military known as a MSO(military service obligation)
they can call him back in at any time during that period

No, not necessarily. He will be sent to a permanent unit. But that doesn't mean he'll go overseas. Chill.

Maybe he joined the Reserves or National Guard, but they still get deployed. If he thinks he can't be deployed, he's wrong.
