It seems everytime someone is talking to me I kind of start daydreaming about stupid things. Or I'll be staring right at them listening and the words come out as verbal mush to me. Can't understand it and have to ask them "What was that?". I don't think anything is wrong with my hearing though. Even when I'm in my college classes I can't seem to get involved in the teachings of the professor. I just screw around on my laptop in front of me instead of taking notes on it, I get bored eZ. My grades aren't bad but it's difficult to keep them up because I find myself constantly re-reading things. Even while I'm writing this I'm jumping back and forth to read things and edit them. I am always thinking about doing multiple things that need to be done and then when it comes to it, I barely do any of them. I also have trouble sleeping sometimes as well, my mind races like bullettrain from hell while I'm laying there. Are there any treatments for this stuff that don't involve prescription drugs?

Well, your story sounds very familiar. It is just like me. I have ADD. Unfortunately, there is no medicine that you can take without a presciption. But with a perscription, Adderall (or however it's spelled) works great. I was unable to concentrate in school and I was failing every subject, now I'm getting straight A's and B's.
Side effects include: loss of hunger, sometimes dizziness, and the ability to go to sleep easier (but it doesn't make you drowsy. It just lets you concentrate on sleeping)

I'm basing my advice on my own personal experience.
As far as continuing a conversation with a person goes, I sortof always found myself out in the clouds like you are for a few reasons. The major reason was associated with personal insecurity. I couldn't concentrate as much on what the person was saying to me as much as I could on what the person may have been thinking of me(on many different levels). I also found it hard to pay attention to some of these people because of intense feelings of boredom or lack of interest.
I always found myself re-reading things as well, and I would feel boggled mentally sometimes. I also have alot of trouble sleeping sometimes, because I am a light sleeper, and my mind also races sometimes before bed.
Basically I would say that you are pretty much normal, and you are only responding to the fast paced American lifestyle just like most people. Pretty much any American can be diagnosed with some sort of condition that a medical doctor would prescribe a drug for. This is the route I recommend avoiding.
In my personal experience I have found that eating healthy and exercising daily has toned down these problems that I have. So exercise multiple times a week, and be more conscious of what you put on and inside of your body. Don't eat artificial sweeteners or processed sugar before you go to bed, especially.

To get the equation of the normal line to the parabola you need to use a point ON the parabola, not the focus. You have the correct slope for the normal line with one minor exception. m = -2a/x for x not equal to 0 because this would cause division by zero. The tangent line at the vertex is a horizontal line so the normal is a vertical line with equation x = 0. This passes through the focus and is one of the solutions (or only solution). A point on the parabola will be (x, x^2/(4a) ) Use this point and the above slope to make the slope-point equation of the normal line. Then determine if the focus (0,a) is on the line by letting x = 0 and y = a in your point-slope equation. The focus will be on the line if this equation has a solution. If it has no solution then there are no other normals that pass through the focus

Oh wow. It seems you have hyperactivity related attention deficit problems? If you don't want drugs then maybe take karate classes; they're great for focus and require lots of energy. Consult a doctor/psychologist? Just to get their opinion....

You need to go to a doctor for this. Bipolar IS serious, so ignore that first answer. ADHD or ADD a bit less serious, but not good to have.
If you don't want to take scrips and go to the doc, head to your local herb store for some natural cures. They have tons of things that might help you.

man i think you might have adhd or bipolar which isn't that bad. Without perscription drugs there are excercises and focusing skills you can develop. Other than that try reading a lot... I heard that also helps.

You might be ADD. I know a couple people who also suffer from that, it's nothing serious but there are medications to help.
