Sounds like a deadly disease doesn't it? I have heard it now and again over the years and it always amuses me to think of this long fancy word to describe bad breath!

I last hear it in this joke:
Oh that Gandhi!
So Gandhi always walked around with no shoes on so he had really rough feet. He is also renowned for his hunger strikes that made him very skinny.
He was also a very spiritual man. But due to his poor diet he had very bad breath.
So what does that make Gandhi?

last time I heard it was on a history game show 10+ years ago when they were talking about the 1920 halitosis scare to sell mouth wash.

halitosis was a medical term used only by doctors until Listerine was developed, first as a powerful antiseptic and floor cleaner and then they weakened the strength and advertised it as a solution to halitosis. Listerine "sold" halitosis to the public, or else we wouldn't know what it was.
