If the analgesics your taking aren't giving you any relief try switching to Advil or Motrin. It may be that the 3rd molar doesn't have enough room to erupt or you have developed an infection in the tissue area. Do you have any swelling of the tissue by the last tooth or drainage, nasty taste in your mouth? If yes, then you need antibiotics. Have you had a pano done lately to determine the position of the wisdom tooth? How long has it been since you've been to see a dentist, and did they tell you anything about this tooth, such as it needs to be extracted or it has or doesn't have room to come in? All of these questions should tell you what you need to do. And that is, you really need to see your dentist as soon as possible. Third molars are known to cause problems erupting. For tonight try hot compresses or a heating pad. If heat doesn't help then try a cold compress, a bag of frozen peas works great for this. You can refreeze them to use over as a compress, but throw them away when you no longer need the compress. Most patients tell me the cold helps ease the pain and the Motrin helps reduce the swelling and inflammation. But some say the heat works best. These are about the only things you can do until you see your dentist. If it gets too severe go to the ER they will at least give you something stronger for pain until you can get to the dentist. I'm sorry I know your in a lot of pain. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Best of luck to you.

I just had all four of mine out, a tad late in life (56). Both before and after the operation, it seemed the only pain reliever that worked was prescription strength Ibuprofen, 800mg, 1 tablet every 6 hours.
It works OK. The only problem I have with it is that it takes a long time to begin working. If I miss a dose by sleeping through it, I have to suffer a little until the next one kicks in.
You may be able to get a prescription from your MD; or, your dentist could recommend an oral surgeon who could do it.
Good luck,

I had mine taken out a week ago. It wasn't hurting, but during the holidays, the pain was so intense that I had a hard time brushing back there and eating. The pain would come and go within months. At my age (30), it was a risk to leave it in because the roots start to curl around the nerve and by pulling it out, it can cut the nerve and leave you with no sensation of your lips and cheek. The pain from taking it out or still having the tooth inpacted, use 500mgs of Vicodin (Hydrocodone - generic name) or 600-800mgs of Ibuprofen if you have it swelling your face. They both work. They may cause dizziness, so take it with a full stomach. You may also try Ambesol, which people use when babies are teething.

Try cleaning the partially covered /partially exposed wisdom tooth with water with pressure( that could be done with a syringe) just close enough to the tissues( not injecting) to remove food leftovers. After that use a cup of warm water with half spoon of salt to rinse. If pain, persists go to dentist to fully expose the molar.

cloves is a natural 'novacain'...[ kinda ]... it works on tooth akes... give it a shot,....make a strong tea brew, and hold it in your mouth a little bit... i bet it works on the gum's surface any way...not so sure how it would work on the inner gums, tho.
