That's a great question that no one really has an answer to except a divine being. I was just asking myself that last night while watching "In the Womb" I would think it would be at some point after attatchment though.

Well, That's an excellent question. I'll say 12 days after fertilization.
Since the blastocyst when it usually implants near the top of the uterus, on the front or back wall being one cell thick. Another area is three to four cells thick. The inner cells in the thickened wall of the blastocyst develop into the embryo and the outer cells burrow into the uterine wall to form the placenta. The embryo is recognizable about 10 days after fertilization. The brain and spinal cord begin to develop by about day 16 or 17. The heart begins to beat
about day 20.
In this day of modern medicine for the purpose of taking usable organs from a person for donation, death is declared when the brain is dead.
Since the brain determines death it seems logical it ought to determine life, which for lack of a better time table to say the soul enters the body any time the embryo is recognizable no later than the 12th day after fertilization I picked 12 because of Israel's 12 nations and there were 12 Apostles. Had to pick some date with a meaning, and hopefully the period of a natural abortion would have passed. Well, it can be later because my wife may well have experienced one. The doctor was unable to see the clot of blood passed. Then there are embryos grown in medical dishes. As I said an excellent question.
.I would say as soon as the embryo is recognizable

You ask a question that is wrapped in controversy.
1.Some pro-life advocates believe life begins at conception. 2. Others think it isn't until an attached embryo is be being nourished by the mother.
3. Some believe it isn't until the birth and the baby takes it's first breath.
Response to 1. You are correct in saying there are fertilized eggs that never attach and are subsequently sluffed off. So the definition of "conception would have to be specific tocontinue with that line of reasoning.
Response to 2. We know in the scriptures when Mary (pregnant with the Christ child) announced her pregnancy to Martha (mother of John the Baptist) Martha exclaimed her baby leaped for joy at hearing the news. This implies consciousness within the womb. With modern technology we now know that the unborn are able to hear, feel, and react to stimuli. It has also been shown that fetuses try to move away from surgical instruments used in abortion. I would tend to believe there is a soul if they is consciousness.
Response to 3. Genesis says that God blew into Adam they breath of life and he became a living soul." This is where many say the soul enters. When you breathe in the breath of life.
My question is what is the soul? Science and medicine have discovered that our entire body is charged with electrical impulse. Electrical impulses stimulate braincells and spark memory, create movement in the muscles etc. The heart beats because of the signal bouncing back and forht from one side to the other. This leads me to believe the soul may be just that. The initial electrical spark that enters a blastocyst, or ignites within an embryo or stirs within a fetus. I only know for sure, that when the spark is gone so is your soul.

Most believe that the soul enters the body at the time of fertilization. If the fertilized egg isn't a blastocyst by the time it is supposed to attach to the uterus it has already died and thus, yes, the natural course would be for the mother's body to expel the dead cells.
But the souls aren't wasted... according to most they supposedly go to heaven.

This is subject to an individuals perspective or perhaps their faith. If I had to have an opinion I would say that the soul enters the body when one becomes self aware. This theory is in part with your question. Life is the ultimate in terms of effeciency. I would have no problem stepping out on a limb to say that life does not waste souls. Then the question being when does one become self aware. Well that is between the individual and god (or whatever divine idol you worship)

The soul is the guy no longer something a human has yet what a human is. (Genesis 2:7) 7 And Jehovah God proceeded to type the guy out of airborne dirt and mud from the floor and to blow into his nostrils the breath of existence, and the guy got here to be a residing soul. be conscious guy grew to become a residing soul no longer given a residing soul. (Ezekiel 18:4) 4 seem! each and every of the souls—to me they belong. because of the fact the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul it quite is sinning—it itself will die. The scriptures additionally say the the soul dies which in opposite to many things faith teaches on the instant. Please examine your bible to get the certainty of the situation.

If you want the biblical answer, it is clear that the bible views the soul as something that is breathed into a person. Indeed, traditionally and possibly still, until a baby drew a breath it could not be baptized.
Of course the soul doesn't exist so it doesn't matter but it is an interesting question.

The Personality of Godhead said: Under the supervision of the Supreme Lord and according to the result of his work, the living entity, the soul, is made to enter into the womb of a woman through the particle of male semen to assume a particular type of body.
PURPORT
the soul is transferred to the semen of a man who is just suitable to become his father. During sexual intercourse, the soul is transferred through the semen of the father into the mother's womb in order to produce a particular type of body. This process is applicable to all embodied living entities, but it is especially mentioned for the man.

How about getting a little further along than the fertilization process and go to the birthing process when one draws the first breath?

There is no beginning or an end of a soul. A soul is, was, and will be. Souls were created by God, and God cannot and will not ever destroy his own creation. The bible says that God knew you before you were born.
