Yes you can use a passport for ID for domestic travel. I do this regularly because I find it easier to handle (and not lose) than my driver's lic.
For proof of ID, an expired passport is acceptable.
The passport only needs to be current if you are using it for foreign travel.

Absolutely yes, if it is a valid Passport, as in not expired. If you're traveling internationally you have to use a passport and a State issued License would be almost useless.

Usually you can. A passport is harder to get than a DL so it should be fine. You might want to take other forms of picture ID though just in case.

I would think so since both Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands are US Territories so travel to those places would be just like traveling to any other US state. Good luck and happy traveling!
