The text is going to have to be in a table first, then you can change the direction. At the top, go to Table>Insert table. Select how many columns and rows. Type your text in one of the table's cells, then back at the top, go to Format>Text Direction. Select the direction you want.

Or maybe you just want to print in lanscape which is when the paper is printed length-wise. Go to File>Page Setup>and the select Landscape.

If I understand what you want, you are asking for the page to print landscape, on the long side of a piece of paper, right?
with Word open, click on File, Print, then Properties. Somewhere in your choices there should be one that says Orientation, or something like that (I don't know what kind of printer you have). If the choices are Portrait or Landscape, then choose Landscape. You don't have to do anything to the paper, the printer will print on the long side (11") side of the paper.

Go to File - Page Setup - Then Under Orientation, click Landscape Mode. Now when you print, the words will be going longways down the page.

If you want the words to be like this:
A
B
C

Use the Text Box Orientation.

If you want them to be sideways (which I cannot show you here) use Word Art.
Insert - Picture - Word Art.

insert a text box and type the words inside. then go to format at the top, and select text direction, and choose with way you want the words to appear. (make sure before going to format at the top, you click on the text box itself so it sort of selects the whole box)
