Thank you for asking such an important question. I believe that vengeance is based on judgement, your judgement, for example, and you act as a self appointed judge, and jury, and executioner. Sometimes a person makes a mistake and does unintentional harm, but our vengeance differs--because we do harm intentionally, with premeditation. I understand that it is a legal issue, and I am not a lawyer, but killing someone by accident differs from a murder with premeditation, for example-a food for thought. Regardless my judgement of vengeance--good or evil--two wrongs don't make a right; hate breeds hate and Love breeds love--what do you desire in your life?

That attitude is usually, but not necessarily, wrong unless you must be vengeful to get them to stop. It is not vengeful to want justice, but if you want "justice' for every little thing, you will find yourself all alone in rightville.

This verse should answer your question.Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, sayeth the Lord.

I would not say evil, but it may well be pointless. It depends on the circumstances; can wreaking your vengeance actually improve the overall situation, beyond you getting your rocks off?

The sweetest revenge is a life well lived. Why waste time and energy on the person who harms you? I would rather put my energy into people and activities that give me joy.

Does revenge make you feel better? You may say yes in first reaction, but it does not satisfy. Forgive; you will be surprised how freeing it is.

I believe it is human nature to want vengeance for wrongs committed.
Is human nature evil? If you subscribe to this theory... yes. If you do not, as I do not... no.
What you do with your need for vengeance is up to question. Is the desire for vengeance merited by the act, i.e. if I called you a name, do you want to torture me to death? Who decides what is appropriate?
Each of us plus the law, unfortunately.

It is so human to want to pay back someone who has hurt you. God tells us that vengeance is His and that He will repay. So, yes it would be wrong to take vengeance against someone else.

Revenge is driven by evil spirits who enjoy seeing us at odds with each other,to forgive is never easy but it is divine.
