don't know since I've only had the one cat -- JJ sounds very protective of you. It's good he likes your boyfriend or you would have a problem (hope the boyfriend is a "keeper")
Oreo (male cat) is a very lovable black and white cat we got from the shelter. He always stands in the laundry room when he hears the garage door open. He sleeps on our bed at night.

This I answer with own experience of course, I find that all gender felines all feline breeds have there own personalities, exactly as humans develop with their own, so each individual feline will have there own individual traits. Just as you get men and woman 'humans' that are jealous or overly possessive toward another so too are felines thus it is normal. However never judge one type gender better than the other it's the same as saying for example men are less or more caring than woman - my 4 precious felines are all individuals the mother is moody her offspring totally different to her and yet alike if that makes sense - her 3 offspring 1 male and 2 females are all lovable and all jealous each in their own special way and I being home all day have them all around me constantly almost my shadow, move with me from room to room so male or female they all protect me and love me equally - male no different to the females.

I have a male cat called Mars, he is an all black cat. He is very lovable, but only to me. My boyfriend cant touch him let alone pick him up as he will struggle and claw. Mars sleeps on my bed at night and makes very loud purring noises even when asleep. Only trouble is, when I have a day off work or the weekend, Mars still wakes me at 7 a,m. very annoying!. We often rub noses together (the cat and I) and I can always understand him, as for the boyfriend.........

In my experience of having cats my entire life, males tend to be more lovable but my females have always been more protective. It really depends on the cat though because I also have owned males who didn't want to be held or petted very often.

Depends on the Cat. my female is very loving (esp. when you have ice cream) and likes to sleep right next to you on the pillow. I have not ever had a male, but I've met some, and they don't seem bad at all, but I don't think it matters that much, especially if you get a mixed breed. specialized breeds may have differences, but I wouldn't know.

LOL I think your cat has an identity problem maybe he thinks hes a dog. Now seriously though i don't think there is a difference on the gender of a cat and there behaviour. I too have a cat who is odd she growls at anyone she sees walk up our driveway that she doesn't know. Your lucky your cat loves you that much.

you're right males are more loveable! and besides, if the female cat has babies she is going to take every inch of protection. this could mean hissing and sracting!

my brother has both a female and male cat he and his best friends adopted, they are both spayed. i have never seen the male cat, but the female cat is more independent and will only allow you to pet her when she wants you to. as my brother tells me, the male cat is just like a dog but more graceful. everytime my brother moves from the couch chaucer (the male cat) sits on his seat.

I don't think male or female had anything to do with how loveable they are. I have 2 female cats and they are sweet as can be. My boyfriend has 2 male cats and they are just as sweet and loveable. I think it's how you raise the cat and their personality. Every cat is different.
