I haven't bowhunted for 15 years and am now going to get back into it. When I bowhunted I shot a heavy arrow at 75lbs draw. I actually knocked a doe off her hoofs. Today I held a carbon arrow and couldn't believe how light it was. How could this arrow ever penetrate through bone? The first black bear I harvested was with a Browning Bushmaster with an aluminum arrow tipped with a Muzzy broadhead and it shattered its shoulder with little damage to the arrow or broadhead. Are these new arrows that good? If your a tree hugging freak, please don't answer, or I will flood your e-mail with Uncle Ted Nugents thoughts on you.

bow hunting --good, tree huger--- bad ..bow god-- that is chuck Adams says a heavy arrow is best .i would go with your gut that is part of the strategy of the hunt .believe a proper placed arrow at a descent range well do the work weather carbon or alum .i shoot alum .i have thought about carbon as it would extend my range but then if i want to shot long shots i well wait until rifle season .what has keep you away from the bow for so long .and better yet what got ya back ..??

I've bow hunted for 30 years and still shoot aluminium arrows with Muzzy broadheads. The carbon arrows out now have come a long way since they first started. Kinetic energy is made with a combination of speed and weight so a slower heavy arrow can have more energy than a faster lighter one. The new carbons have very close tolerances and are durable and with a smaller diameter they are said to have less drag which helps with penetration. A lot of the guys I hunt with have switched to carbon and love them but my aluminium arrows have never failed and I don't need a high speed cut-off saw to build my arrows. Either way you decide to go will work fine as long as the arrows are matched to your bow. By the way, I still have a Nugent Wackmaster made by Oneida. Good luck hunting.

Your question prompted me to do a search on carbon vs aluminum arrows. I came accross an article by my favorite archer, Chuck Adams. I was very suprised at what I read. Check it out
