COMAS have been mistaken for death many many times. That is why the practice of a "WAKE" started. The supposedly dead person was watched by people as they hoped he would "wake" up. Not too long ago, the fear of being buried alive was great in the USA. They went so far as to make coffins with air pipes and signal flags, just in case the "dead" person woke up, he could pull the signal flag and they would dig him up. After a couple of weeks, they would break off the flag and air tube and fill in the hole. Today, embalming is the practice. Pretty hard to come back from the dead when all your blood has been replaced with formaldehyde. Even in hospitals with all of their equipment, coma is still sometimes confused with death. In the case of hypothermia, the coma can be so profound, the saying is "They are not dead until they are warm and dead." In the case of "brain dead" they have to prove that with an EEG and drug test, to make sure the person does not have some drug in their system that put the brain to sleep. You will note in the bible, Jesus never brought someone who had been beheaded back, nor someone who had been dead for weeks. In fact, his own "rising from the dead" can be explained by a coma, as he was not up on the cross the standard three days.. But that is another debate.

I read a book called "Gandhi on Christianity"
In it he said that he did not believe that Jesus had raised the dead. He recounted a story of a child in his village who appeared dead, he gave the boy an enema and sure enough the blockage passed and the boy was able to move. Everyone who witnessed this event tried to say Gandhi himself had raised the boy from the dead, He had to tell them it was just simple knowledge of medicine.

Because He came to fulfill holy scripture. Most people are unaware of why God does the things he does: "My thoughts are not your thoughts" God does call his own- read the first 2 chapters of Ephesians. The most wonderful thing is the hope in that death could not keep Jesus. He arose and lives forever!

It is not known why Jesus brought "some" back to life except to show Israel that God had given Him the power to do so. As to why He chose the number He did, is not for us to know now. We will when we get to heaven.

God Bless you :)

It's the old Free Will. Our Creator doesn't make anyone go to hell. But he doesn't make anyone go to Heaven either.
Did you know it says in Matthew that some Saints were raised the minute Christ died?

Good question!

The reason being that it was not yet the time for all those in the memorial tombs, she'ol , ha'des, hell, common grave(all refer to the same thing grave or pit situation) to be brought back to life on earth.
----Also would the world have been able to handle all the millions that died before Christ if he would have done it all then?

--Please note how enormous a situation that Jesus promised will be:
(John 5:25-29) “...27 And he has given him authority to do judging, because Son of man he is. 28 Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment.”

Notice please "ALL " those in the memorial tombs......"these are all those in the memory of God who he deems worthy of life, which indeed could be a tremendous number. Those out of God's memory can be compared , similarly to an unmarked graves for the violest of criminals.--that society deems to be forgotten. --where Stalin, Hitler, S. Hussein & other monsters should have been confined to.

A reference is also made by Moses the biographer of Job about Job realizing that he would have to wait for the period of time when Jehovah God would sanction his Son , Christ to do that resurrecting:

(Job 14:1-2) “14 “Man, born of woman, Is short-lived and glutted with agitation.  2 Like a blossom he has come forth and is cut off, And he runs away like the shadow and does not keep existing.”.......... 7 For there exists hope for even a tree.
If it gets cut down, it will even sprout again,
And its own twig will not cease to be.
8 If its root grows old in the earth
And in the dust its stump dies,
9 At the scent of water it will sprout
And it will certainly produce a bough like a new plant.
10 But an able-bodied man dies and lies vanquished;
And an earthling man expires, and where is he?
11 Waters do disappear from a sea,
And a river itself drains off and dries up.
12 Man also has to lie down and does not get up...... “13 O that in She´ol(common grave of mankind-my comment) you would conceal me, That you would keep me secret until your anger turns back, That you would set a time limit for me and remember me! 14 If an able-bodied man dies can he live again? All the days of my compulsory service I shall wait, Until my relief comes.”
---If you notice death is compared to a tree cut down.. and life coming back to it at a sent of water, in the case of a tree it is a natural occurence for growth to take place, but man stays in his death state "compulsary service......until my relief comes" Reference to earthly resurrection time, after armaggedon.

--Notice an illustration of how the earthly resurrection could take place once the fulfillment of the prayer Jesus told in manner to pray ...."thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth...." This is to be accomplished during the promised millinium of Christ rule from heaven(Revelation 20:1,2,12-15, 21:1-5)

....*** it-2 p. 792 Resurrection ***

Resurrection During 1,000 Years. A very liberal estimate of the number of persons that have ever lived on earth is 20 billion (20,000,000,000). Many students of the subject calculate that not nearly so many have lived. Not all of these, as it has been shown in the foregoing discussion, will receive a resurrection, but even assuming that they did, there would be no problem as to living space and food for them. The land surface of the earth at present is about 148,000,000 sq km (57,000,000 sq mi), or about 14,800,000,000 ha (36,500,000,000 acres). Even allowing half of that to be set aside for other uses, there would be more than a third of a hectare (almost 1 acre) for each person. As to earth’s potential food production, a third of a hectare will actually provide much more than enough food for one person, especially when, as God has demonstrated in the case of the nation of Israel, there is abundance of food as a result of God’s blessing.—1Ki 4:20; Eze 34:27.

--Is it not interesting to note that Jesus demonstrated what the earthly resurrection would be like--with the happiness of all involved and the tremendous relief to those who would witness it?(Lazarus etc.)

--Please also note that Christ, even though he had the power, DID NOT resurrect anyone to heaven, showing that for most of mankind ,by far, it would be, an earthly experience!
