Le Bernardin, Daniel, per se, Gramercy Tavern, Cafe Boulud, Bouley, Jean Georges, Nobu, Alain Ducasse, Babbo
This is from Zagat Guide, with some personal editing -- they have Peter Luger in their top ten -- I think it's overrated. Of course these kind of lists are somewhat subjective.
Hard Rock Cafe --is just a hamburger joint and tourist trap

There are a million great restaurants in NYC. If you want exotic, go to Lucky Chengs on 1st Ave. The food is so so but I've heard it's gotten better. The waiters are Asian drag queens. It's really a hoot.
