im worried it will go off on me. how do i fix this or whats my problem

The airbag lights come on at certain time/milage intervals, not sure which one. My 97 jetta one came on, and when I took it in for other work, the mechanic told me he reset it and there was no charge. Find a good independant shop who will do this for free.

Perhaps one of your airbag sensor connectors is loose or dirty, or just outright bad. Or could be an internal module fault. Have a dealer look at it.

first off 96 vw not an 06 so dont take it to a dealer.......
take it to an independent shop and have them scan tool it.
