Once there umbilical cord has dried up they can be bathed, however be careful of what you bath them in. Use a dog shampoo that specifies it is ok to use on puppies.

listen my dear i have 7 pups here with me at this moment and they are seven weeks old they had a nice bath when they where 5 weeks old and they loved every minute of it just talk to them and that way they will be fine when you have bathed your pup use baby shampoo that way it wont hurt there little eyes i always bath my dogs and pups in baby shampoo because its got no chemicals in it to hurt them or aggrevate there skin make sure that you dry them well and then dry them with a cool hair dryer and keep him nice and warm by the fire don't let the pup get cold and just talk to the little pup all the time when you are doing it and then the pup will be fine don't worry the pup will be fine and they love having a nice bath and brush up and then get a cotton wool bud and clean out the pups ears and any hair that is in the pups ears gently pluck it out and it will stop them getting bad ears

A young puppy shouldn't need to be bathed, I have a white German Shepherd 10 months old and she didn't get her first bath until 3 weeks ago and only then because she rolled in fox poo! if you absolutely HAVE to bath the poor little mite then get a dry shampoo to rub in and brush out.

There is no minimum age for bathing your dog or puppy. You should only bathe your dog when it is necessary. Too much bathing removes all the moisture and natural oils from the dogs coat and can leave the skin dry, irritable and flaky and usually causes dandruff.

Flea shampoo's tend to be too harsh (and are generally useless) for my dogs so I use Baby shampoo to bathe them. Frontline is best for flea control so a shampoo should have a sole purpose....To CLEAN. I usually only bathe my dogs to get rid them of fox poo that they like to roll in. But it's better to take them to a clean pond or lake to 'swim it off', if you can.
(Osterly park in North London has a great lake for dogs!!)

Unfortunately, dogs tend to smell like dogs.
Occupational hazard, I'm afraid.

Oh, a childs paddling pool is great for cooling down in the summer or a garden hose if there's no hose ban.

Me & my sister first bathed her dog when he was 6 weeks old and itdid him no harm just make sure you keep the puppy or puppies warm after you take the pup out. I have seen puppies as young as 4 weeks get bathed by vets due to fleas so you can bath them only if you need to.

Generally, puppies don't need to be bathed until they are 6-9 months old. But if you find your little one has gotten dirty, you can bathe him. Just make sure you use puppy shampoo, as it is much milder for their sensitive skin. Also, keep them warm after bathing until they are dry.

I have known breeders to bathe their puppies at 8 weeks of age - before being sold.

if they are still nursing then mom is taking care of all grooming needs. if they are weaned then we at the grooming salon i work at say about 4 to 6 weeks for an at home bath using the most gentle puppy shampoo available. we won't accept any puppy for service until they have 2 sets of shots and are at least 8 to 10 weeks old. the shots are for the pups safety to protect it from any disease that another dog may have and is aireborne.

if you keep them warm and use gentle products there's no reason why you can't bath a small puppy at 8 weeks. Just don't keep bathing him to often - no more than every 2 - 3 weeks
