At a "pounding", each guest is asked to bring one pound of any household product (flour, sugar, detergent,etc.) Then, the guest has to find a gadget or accessory to use with that item.

I think it is where people bring "pounds" of household items. Like 5 pound bags of sugar or flour, kind of like a kitchen shower. Where I'm from, we just call them "poundings."
