I know you dog people that don't let your dogs out of the house will flip out. But I want to hear the Answers.

What breed pound for pound is the best in a fight. Whether it be another dog. A cat , for those Toys and minitures. Or protecting its owner from a attacking bear or Mountain Lion. What breed is loyal enough to its owner to jeoperdize its own life?

My answer is the Yorkie. I don't own one.
The other thing is an attack on my dog is an attack on me. My dog already knows that. Hell I out weigh my dog by a 120lbs. I defrontly can inflick more damage. All I am saying is that I am not the owner that watches another dog male mine. Bear or Mountain Lion? Well he was a good dog. I hope I can find another as Loyal

I think as a breed group. The Terror is the most fierce and protective. Whether its a Yorkie or a large Airdale. A Terror just won't back down from anything.

The Presa Canario is reputed to be fiercely loyal to its families and will defend/fight to the death. They are mostly bred in the Canary Islands of Spain and are not a recognized breed in the US. You may remember the story of the presa that attacked and killed the lady in San Francisco as she perceived a threat to her owner. They are extremely powerful and muscular dogs that must have an owner that is experienced with the stronger breeds. If you are not the Alpha with this type of dog, there will be big trouble!

I can say for a fact that my dog (in my avatar) would do that. He is a great guard dog and the vet says that comes from the Saint Bernard in him. (He's Golden Retriver/St. Bernard mix) He's not mean at all but will protect us if he feels a threat is near. I was walking him the other day and a stray dog came out of nowhere barking and losing it's mind. My dog stodd right inbetween me and that dog, stood his highest, growled and did his deep bark. I know for sure he would have attacked had I not been holding him back, and 120 lbs. isn't easy to hold back! But thankfully I don't live near bears or mountain lions so I don't have to worry about it because I would lose my mind on anything that hurt one of my dogs!

forget the dog and buy a dictionary

tuffest = toughest
defrontly? = definitely (guessing based on context)

To answer your poorly worded question: any dog would be loyal enough to put their life on the line for its owner in most cases and if trained to do so. They are animals and instinct would be to do what they have to do to survive - which might be to get the hell out of there.

As far as pound for pound toughness...hard to say - you can't easily compare, say a Rottweiler and a West Highland Terrier - I think a Westie is just as brave and is extremely powerful for it's size but a true pound for pound comparison is hard to do.

actually in ww1 and ww2 the breed that was used was the airedale because it would continue to its destination no matter what. wounded or whatever. it's a recorded fact that one dog made it to its destination and fell over dead immediately from wound suffered on the journey. i'd say thats pretty tough and i don't own an airedale. for tenacity i'd say any bulldog. mastiffs have also been war dogs and used in battle.
