Value, Performance, gas mileage, and Room?
There are many cars out there that fit this and none of them include Honda :) Priced too high, Go to Slow, they suck more gas than Toyota, and are cramped.
If you are like me you like a car that has guts and gets good gas mileage. Like my V8 camaro that knocks down 28mpg highway and has 270,000 miles on it. Only four doors.
Value: I hate Hyundai/KIA but they are a great value and they can beat any comparable Honda in a race.
Performance: Nissan/Toyota V6's are very fast only not so much on the gas mileage and they cost a lot.
Room: Ford 500, Crown vic, and there mercury counter parts
A little of each, any GM mid or full size cars, There is not one General motors car that gets less than 28mpg, and that's the full size with the V8s. The midsized with the v6's all get over 30mpg on the highway( Chevy Malibu, Pontiac G6, Saturn Aura, Buick La cross) and have room, performance, and you can get them cheaper than the imports except the Korean cars.)
I have the New Malibu, V6, it averages 27 in town and 33 on the highway, plenty of power, plenty of room, got it with 20k miles for $11 dollars in perfect condition. Loaded (cool remote start, and on-star) I got all that for the price of a Stripped down used Honda Fit that was sitting beside it. :)
If you want to step up Just get the new Impala SS, The Imports can't keep up with it in speed, Horse power, Gas mileage and price

your brother is sweet about the Eclipse. quite it really is not something that you except per chance solid searching... and they were continuously noteably unrelaible. attempt a Nissan Sentra, Mazda Protege, Saturn Ion (should be got here upon less than 5k with less than 65k miles for an 03 or 04) or a stay sparkling of Neon. Now, i understand the haters are going to slam the neon, regardless of the indisputable fact that the perfect 3 years it grow to be made it rated style of a similar in reliability to the Civic, had much better room and grow to be purely about 2 seconds swifter 0-60. many each body is going to signify the Corolla and Civic, yet you gained't discover any deals on them because distinctive people propose them. you'll discover deals onthe 4 I record.

any honda car will last a long time.. if you can afford one. the acura will last for thelongest time without much repair.. as long as the oil is changed on schedule.. I own a civic ex and it has lots of miles and goes very fast too..My last toyota corolla had 250000 miles on it and it still ran like atop.. it just looked terrible and was a slow little buggar.. overall. a honda would be my first choice. toyota second and a nissan as third choice for reliability and long life
