This seems to be one of the following:
1) Very old, overused pair of lenses (never go beyond 6 months with same pair of soft contact lens)
2) Eyes may be dry--use lubricants
3) May have allergy from care-system (solution used)--shift to preservative free solution

yea could be an infection, or he may need a new prescription. something could have irritated the eye also if anything got in them or they weren't cleaned properly. i know a friend of mine fell asleep with his contacts in and almost needed surgery because of it. they scratched his eye really bad an he got an infection. have him see his doctor about what could be wrong. hope it improves, good luck

the same thing happens to my dad, no it's not an infection, just an allergic reaction, like poison ivy...you better talk to his opthamologist for a hypoallergenic lens solution....
