i used to lick my lips a lot when i didnt have chapstick. it messed up my lips. i started to get a red ring around my lips too. then one day i smacked on ALL of this Vaseline on my lips back to back to back. My lips got really red, swollen, and i had these bumps on my lips.(wen u popped it vaseline came out) I started to use Blistex Lip Medex, which started to heal it. But when i put on too much it did the same thing as the vaseline, something to do with petroleum i guess. recently ive been putting on neosporin and tea tree oil, which really helps the itch, the main reason i pick and scratch my lip and mouth area. the problem is the ring and chappedness is still there. is there any thing i can do, or do i need to go to a dermatologist? thanks

btw, im 12 going on 13

U should try using a scar medicine to help that ring go away And for the chappedness try Soft Lips , but make sure from a dermatologists first.

It sounds to me like you have an infection. Constant licking has aggravated the skin surrounding your mouth. The Vaseline traps moisture, so this would add to the problem. Vaseline will also cause a break out, especially in someone your age. There are special balms out there for extremely chapped lips. Ask your pharmacist to recommend one. As for the red rash around your mouth, you could have a yeast infection. You should probably see your general doctor. S/he will give you a topical cream to heal the rash. I don't think you will need a dermatologist just yet

Wow it sounds like you got yourself into a big mess there sweetie. At this point I think I would definitely go to the doctor. Obviously you haven't found anything that works. I would just say whatever you use, use it in moderation and try as hard as you can to stop licking. You can actually get addicted to things like chapstick and lotion because when you use too much your body stops producing it's own natural oils. My favorite line of products for chapped lips is the Burt's Bee's stuff. http://www.burtsbees.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TopCategoriesDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10101&catalogId=10751 Here they sell it in Bath and Body Works, but I'm not sure that they do in every B&B Works. Usually when I start to get chapped lips I only have to use it once or twice overnight and my lips will get better. But like I said, at this point I would definitely go to the doctor. I'd be in there tomorrow, he will know much better what to do to heal the chapped area. Good luck!

Have mom buy an aloe plant. You cut arms off it and rub it on your lips. It will relieve the itch, help your skin heal, and it tastes nasty so you won't be so inclined to lick!
When you cut an arm off the plant, split it open and rub the gooey meat of the plant on your lips. Wrap the piece in plastic and put it in the fridge, you can use it 3 or 4 times. And don't worry the plant grows back too. You can also use it in the summer to treat sunburn!

Stop over using the products. Try using small quantities of chapstick a few times a day. Every 3-4 hours. Don't put on a lot, this will only make it worse. Once the pain subsides try running your toothbrush over your lips every time you brush your teeth. This will remove any dead skin that is left.

Actually, I had this very same problem...
Believe me or not...this is how I fixed it.

Every time I would lick my lips, I would immediately dry them.

That's it.

It's a habit to lick. So, just let it happen but wipe off the moisture immediately. Once your lips sense that they are still dry, your moisture from within will kick in.

BTW...I've seen Carmex do some really amazing stuff. Try that.
