I don't see religion as a need necessarily. I see it as an unanswered question that will always plague man because he has the intellect to ask why. Why are we here? Who made us? How did the earth get here. People have faith in their perspective religions because they surround themselves with others who do the same.
I'm a Buddhist. I choose Buddhism because there is no worship involved. We don't have to worship a god that we are not even sure exist. We don't worship Buddha. We just follow his teachings and try to live as good a life as possible. That is done by concentrating on the moment, not worrying about the past or the future. Not relying on prayer to a god who gives no answers.
I perceive religion as a good thing when the right motives are involved. As long a people of a certain religion don't try to force it on others, and live in peace without harming humanity, it is fine by me. The moment you go murdering people because they don't share your beliefs, or starting wars or riots for it then it is wrong and so are you.
I don't see any certain religion as everlasting, or ephemeral. As time changes so do all things including religion. By the way you won't see many Buddhist try to spread it around or force people into the belief. If I don't speak to you again, have a peaceful and prosperous long life.

Religion isn't a necessity for me, it's just an annoying trait in too many of the population. Religion is a big con, but unfortunately it will be everlasting because some people will never be convinced otherwise. However, having read a lot of the questions and answers in this section, it seems to me that more and more people are beginning to accept that all you need is to believe in yourself, know the difference between right and wrong and live to the beat of your own drum.

I feel that people just need to believe in something whether it be some sort of religious icon or themselves. Religion in general has done nothing but cause hatred, chaos, war and genocide throughout history. So religion of any sort has never done anything for me. I believe that religious beliefs are a necessity for a larger majority of mankind, some people just don't have enough confidence in themselves and have to look to higher powers to get a sense of reassurance and some sort of validation. People give so much time and energy towards worshipping and participating in religious activities and rituals I feel that they lose a sense of self. If you want to make the world a better place and feel good about yourself, skip your worship and go feed the homeless or donate time at a home for abused women and children

Yes for some. Religions started off as polytheistic to explain natural phenomena, but even now that we know how the universe works, fear still is the guiding factor of many people's decisions. For some, religion will always be a necessity.

Religion is basically a form of social conditioning, induced almost entirely by parents/upbringing, ensuring that Indians always become Hindus, Americans become Christians, Islam, Judaism, ditto. This simple fact shows that `God` is a construct, an invisible friend, a coping mechanism for fears , misunderstanding , and poor educational standards. It may be a "need", but devoid of proof it is also a delusion.

It doesn't appear to be a necessity in the modern world. Can I suggest that instead of trying to understand religion and people's beliefs that you study the man Jesus who was an incredible guy who liked a drink and the woman and had a good sense of humour

I do believe in God, but I do not believe in organised religion. I don't think that eligion is a necessity for mankind. Like all other things in life are just choices! The sooner organised religions accept that the better will it be for everybody!!!!

It is absolutely not a necessity. The answer to why some people (typically lower IQ, see sources) is complex (hence the reasons that so many prefer the 'god did it' route since that doesn't tax their brains) but it relates to 3 or more things in our evolution.
1. is to do with our group cooperation
2. is to do with anticipating a predator or prey (see Dawkins, for an excellent explanation).
3. is to do with our ability to convey and conceive abstract ideas.

faith relies on the misperception that actuality may well be latest in dogma, whilst somewhat actuality can in basic terms be stumbled on interior. it is the version between spirituality and faith. Spirituality is approximately springing up our optimal human potential, and faith is approximately believing in something so as that we are 'saved' after dying. vast distinction. worry isn't professional-strengthen. If there is worry getting used as a gadget to get people to have self belief, then there is not any longer something religious happening. Spirituality is often approximately springing up previous our fears. faith teaches that progression isn't needed by using fact salvation is interior the after existence. it is an anti-religious coaching which seen on the collective point of 'result', retains humanity from springing up our optimal potential. Spirituality can in basic terms exist without (psychological) worry, by using fact the objective of real spirituality is to realize our optimal potential; a state freed from subconscious, psychological worry.

Only certain religions, like Buddhism and Paganism, the rest are too hateful and full of venom for outsiders. FOR THE RECORD A RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS IS STILL THE RELIGION OF CHRISTIANITY!
Bria prefers spirituality to religion, but if there are any that are organized it would have to be Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and other parts of Paganism, (except for Odalism, and worship of other war Gods and Goddesses.)
