I can see why some would feel like giving up...I haven't felt that way in a long time! When I feel like giving up, I give it to God... I say I can't figure out what to do, so here, I know if I trust you, you will lead me in your way, God! This scripture gives me hope:
Matthew 5:11-12
"God blesses you when people mock you & persecute you & lie about you & say all kinds of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophet were persecuted in the same way."
That one always makes me smile when I am met with much anger & opposition.
But also remember this:
Matthew 10:14
If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town.
You can just walk away. God calls those that He wants. You can't make anyone do anything they don't want to. And maybe you aren't meant to lead them to salvation because like trees with deep roots first you plant a seed, and then it takes time to grow...Just try to plant the seed! God will help it grow if it was meant to, & if you are meant to help it grow, you will know!

To some extent I gave up some years ago and am trying to renew myself now. I never directly forsaked God but I gave up hope.
Events and questions and doubts arose and that I didn't take enough energy to find the answer too. Most notably the question of why I chose Christianity. Of course it was the first religion I was introduced to, and I hadn't deeply explored any other religion. How could God choose one people group over another.
Now I'm searching and refining my belief in God and the answers to the big questions that no one in the small town church I grew up in would have tolerated.
Jesus declared he is truth. So I'm workign to see how science, other historical documents and evidence and the bible work together.
From my path, I think there is much to imporve upon in the education of children choose to make a confession for Christ when they are so young. They are serious, as was I. But need to be grown into adult christians.
I wish there was more emphasis on serious philosophical discussion, examination of historical and scientific evidence, A way to give guidance and an opprotunity for finding an adult faith. Not an inherited one, or a blind one.
I always wish I had more faith. Sometimes I wish I had blind faith. I know many sweet hard workgin people with blind faith and they never seem to question anything. I've got a scientific mind and not questioning to me just feels stupid. I cant go that path

Being a Christian means that you are changed on the inside, not controlled from the outside. It means that your heart has been changed by the presence of God. It does not mean that you are required to go to church, required to pay tithes, required to be good, required to do anything in order to stay a Christian. It means you desire to do those things because you've been changed. Being a Christian means that you have encountered the true and living God and that you have undergone a change in your heart and soul.
If you become a Christian and then continue to live in sinful ways, the Holy Spirit will gently and convincingly prod your heart and bring you to a place of repentance. He is persistent. He won't give up and sometimes that repentance can be difficult, especially if He brings you to confess your sins to others and make things right.

In Numbers 11:4-6, we see the Israelites complaining about the gifts that God had given them through the manna, and began to wish that they were back in Egypt.
"Hey!" they said. "Weren't things so great back in Egypt? There was such good food, and we didn't have to even pay for it!" This would have been true, but what was also true was that they were slaves. They were worked hard and unreasonably, they were beat, and the king was killing their babies. Their perspective had been clouded.
It can be easy to become frustrated as a Christian to look at our lives, and how we are called to live, and then compare it to the world. "If I wasn't a Christian, I wouldn't have to worry about abstitence. If I wasn't a Christian, I could watch that movie that I know is so bad." Our list could be made up of many things. But what we must remember is that if we weren't Christians, we would also be facing God's eternal wrath and the punishment of hell!
When we have the correct perspective, it can show us what is easy for us to miss when we are concerned with the things of the world. It can be hard at many times to follow God's commands, but we must keep in mind that it is His way of blessing us. He forbids us things for our benefit and for his glory.

If the world hated Jesus, they will also hate us. He was perfect, and the world hated Him, mocked Him, beat Him, and nailed Him to a cross.
We are guaranteed one thing- that there will be difficulties, there will be persecutions, there will be those that hate us merely because we love Jesus- but Jesus will be faithful to us through the hard times.
We are also told not to despair, because greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world.
I have felt like giving up as a pastor and as a missionary, but never giving up as a Christian. Where else could I go, after knowing perfect love? Where could I turn, and not see signs of my loving Creator?
No, while the path is narrow, the going is rough, and there are many Judas pains along the way, there is still only one path worth following, and His Name is Wonderful! Jesus!

When we try do do everything in our own strength we are rowing against the current.
Proverbs 3:5,6
Trust in the Lord with all of you heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all of your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.
Matthew 11:28-30
Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble of heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
It is God who changes us on from the inside out. It is our own efforts to change that are done from the outside in. All that God requires of us is that we are WILLING, that is it. When we are willing to do things God's way instead of our way life is no longer the same. This is so much easier to say, however, it is the truth. If we will strive to be obedient to what God is leading us to do and how then it gets easier as you go along. The biggest step is in learning that you really can trust God and that you really can believe the God that you say you believe in. God is interested in long term gains not temporary fixes and this is where most of us falter. This is why Paul encourages us to run a good race and to be able to finish it. He doesn't ever tell us that the race is a fast one just a long one. Perserverence builds character. I don't remember the verse but Peter has a discourse in his letter about how knowledge leads to understanding, understanding leads to perserverance and perserverance leads to godliness etc., I think it is in 1 Peter. It is a good word to encourage us in the difficult times.
It is also in the middle of a trial when we are about to break through in a lesson or promise that God has for us that we tend to be the most discouraged. Hang on and perservere, trust God. The way it seems to work is you recieve the promise then you have the problem to build you up so you can enjoy the promise recieved. An example is God's people wandering in the desert for 40 years. They were so stiff necked among other things, that it took God that long to prepare them to recieve the promise He had for them.
I hope this has been of help and I will pray for you, God bless you.

I have found Christianity to be the biggest challenge of my life,I recall that Jesus said that we would be persecuted for following Him and this is a truth indeed,we are not transformed into unfeeling automatons by our belief in Christ and if He suffered then so shall we,having said this it is the price that has to be paid to inherit eternal life, all I can say is that I have made my free will choice to follow the Lord as best as I can and I never want to turn back.

It is difficult, very difficult, to do the one thing that makes you a Christian in the eyes of Jesus.
Jesus pleaded with us to be harmony-loving, and to forgive each other; sermon on the mount, turn the other cheek, love one another, etcetera.
Finally, Jesus realized that pleading with us would do little good. So he warned us:
He warned us?
Jesus said, "If you do not forgive others, then, your father in Heaven will not forgive you."
That is the most clear verse in the Bible. It is very easy to understand, yet it the most difficult to do.
Especially, it is difficult to forgive someone who has hurt you.
Yet it is one of the few things (forgiving others) that guarantees a visit from the Holy Spirit.
(If you forgive someone who has hurt you, the Holy Spirit will grab you and witness to you that you will go to Heaven after your stay here on Earth.)
If you scream "Lord, lord, I am saved no matter how I conduct my life", then Paul will tell you, you are saved. (so what? Are you going to trust your life in Paul, or Jesus?)
(I feel I will see you and your wife in Heaven: A place for harmony-loving people.)

Yes, i think that every Christian feels like giving up now and then, but thats when we have to look to the hills to the creator of heaven and earth. because he is the Mighty God that we follow the author and profector the beginning and the end, and we have to fight the good fight of faith.
