Does anyone have any ideas of how to effectively destroy television as a technology?

It has already been proven that television is directly linked to ignorance, cancer, depression, the fall of many native cultures, inability to cope with reality, and mass brainwashing. And thats just off the top of my head, there are many more negative aspects.

old technologies dont die. they just get appropriated into new ones. so just wait for a while and dont worry, in you lifetime the tv shall be obsolete. it will not be replaced. instead it will merely become a part of some other form of entertainment - like interactive hologrammatic video gaming soap operas all packed into a single experience.

just hang around, buddy. the tv is surely going to disappear. dont bother to destroy it.

Actually I grew up on Sesame Street & other educational shows on TV. I'd say I'm doing really well academically & I can attribute part of my success to the educational aspect of television. The telly's not all that bad.

But I guess if you wanna destroy television, you should probably start a movement- tell people to stop watching TV. & then the ratings will go down & the TV companies won't have enough dough to keep their shows running and that's it, the end of TV as we know it.
Doesn't really sound very practical though.

Why on earth would anyone do that. Its just about the greatest leisure invention ever....I agree that some of the things on the television should be destroyed (ie reality shows) but TV itself is not the problem.

But there are so many more positive aspects! Teaching programs for young ones, Near instantaneous movement of information, news programs. If you wanted to stop information flow you might as well destroy all written text and the entire internet while your at it.

"Mads" has the right idea. In less than 5 years, TV as we know it will be extinct. Everything is going to the computer. For now though, the big word is WILLPOWER.

Sure we have Directv at our house but it is mostly listened to while working on the computer.

I have no television from outside sources in my home. We buy movies for the kids and let them watch what we screen first.

I get my news from the Internet and God as my witness, I'm trying to figure out how to stop doing that. It's all BULL$HIT.

All you have the right to control is your own environment. Lose your own TV, suggest your friends to the same. If they opt to not, then leave them alone about it. Otherwise you take on the airs of a zealot, and nobody likes a zealot.

This is a free country in which we can choose our entertainment. You WON'T BE ABLE TO CONVINCE EVERYONE. There are people here who like to watch news, watch sports or watch to escape their stress. Without televison, there will be no DVd. Everything is connected.

Ummmmmm... good idea. But what for? After that, then what?
Many people are employed by television. That would be putting THOUSANDS of people out of work. AND! Its our main source of news.

............. Although I don't actually HAVE tv............ I read about it.
