I always park at the other end of the parking lot away from everyone to make sure that nobody hits my car. But it never fails, everytime I come out of the store there is someone parked next to me and they could have chose the any other spot. It really erks me. I just wanted to know what your take on this is.

If they are going to break into my car, they will break into yours

I don't even drive a nice car and I always try to park away from other people just because I like being alone. and I drive an old 1990 f350 1 ton pickup truck with dents and dings all over it I call it the beast because its rugged looking. anyways when I come out of the store I find that even though I drive an ugly beat up bastard of a truck people will still be parked right next to me in an empty part of the lot. so I don't think it has to do anything with people parking next to you because they think your cautious, even though I am cautious. but by the looks of my truck who would ever think I was ?

So, I'm not the only one that wondered why people did that! I park at the back for 3 reasons. One is so that nobody else will park by me, hopefully, and slam their cart or door into my car, two is for the exercise, and third, because it's easier to get out of the parking lot that way. There can be 20 spaces all around me, and some knucklehead has to park within an inch of my car. I've always wondered why someone has to take not only his/her space, but part of the one behind and to the side, as well. Now I know. Guess I'll try that the next time!

People are followers. When there's a huge empty lot, no one wants to park there. But as soon as one person parks there, the area is okay and everyone parks there.

Same thing at a potluck dinner. All the food can be out and ready to serve, but no one will touch it until they see someone else do it first. (Usually ends up being the host or hostess.)

Same thing when you're giving something away for free. No one wants any until one person says yes, then they all want one. This happened to me when I worked for an eye doctor and cleaned people's glasses for free in a nearby store. Also when I worked at a Thanksgiving dinner and we took free Polaroids for the homelss people to have of themselves. Everyone said no, then one guy said yes, then everyone came back and said "I guess I do want one."

lol, that happens to me a lot and i have often wondered why too. the only thing i can think of is maybe they feel safer if they are closer to another car when they come out in a public place like a mall or neighborhood that's questionable. So people that do this...please shed some light on why?

Perhaps they reason that at least one side of their car will be "protected", since it is parked next to another car. Leaving both sides "vulnerable," especially in the less congested area of the parking lot might result in an inexperienced/poor driver damaging their car twice as likely.

This is very funny. Many years ago I used to travel back and forth between Boston and Philadelphia via Amtrak. On one such occasion, the train was empty except for a few passengers. I was all nestled in when suddenly this woman, who turned out to be a nun, sat right down beside me. I couldn't believe it, she had her choice of seats, but chose the one right next to mine. Maybe it was my subliminal charm. LOL

I'm taking my driving lessons at the most respected company in Canada and they told us in the classroom that you're more likely to get hit if you're off by yourself. You're better off having cars next to you. And parking next to a pole in the lot is even better.

MAYBE THEY ARE TRYING TO LET EVERYONE ELSE HAVE THE BETTER SPOTS CLOSE UP SO THEY DONT HAVE TO WALK SO FAR.I KNOW PEOPLE WHO DO THAT..IF ALL THE HANDICAPS ARE TAKEN THERE STILL SOME OLDER PEOPLE WHO NEED TO PARK AND HAVE A HARD TIME WALKING THAT FAR SO THEY LEAVE THE CLOSER SPOTS OPEN,JUST IN CASE AND JUST TO BE NICE...BUT AGAIN WHO REALLY KNOWS.PEOPLE CAN BE "FUNNY" YA KNOW

I have always wondered about this too. I don't park far away, I'm too lazy. ha,ha! But I have seen it done and always wondered why. Maybe some people do it because they can see you don't want to park close to anyone and they just want to make you angry.

I have this happen to me personally where I have had to get in on the passenger side . So now I carry in my car a bottle of white shoe polish so I can write across the front of their whole windshield , *SSHOLE or what ever you feel you need to say to get your point across to the inconsiderate poor excuse of a human being!
