usually when someone is content they are also happy. Being content means you don't need or want anything else in your life to make you feel whole. It's hard to be truly content in this society because we thrive off of having the latest and greatest. If you are content with your life, more power to ya. I wish the same for everyone.

To be "content" suggests that you are somehow settling for less than 100%. You'd be CONTENT with a hamburger...but a steak would be better right? The truth is that happiness is a journey..not a destination. It's a process and not an event. I mean ask yourself: Do I drive the car I want to drive? Do I have total bliss in every relationship with my friends and family? Do I look forward to each new day with boundless enthusiasm? It's pretty hard to say YES to all of those questions (and others) EVERY DAY. The key is first KNOWING what makes you happy. Money, love, a relationship with God...Different people have different ideas of what it means to be happy. But first decide what happy is to you and then WRITE down some specific goals that you need to accomplish to get there. One thing is for sure, it won't happen by accident. You wouldn't take a cross country journey without a road map (a plan) so why go through life without one?
In the end, I believe that a huge part of being truly happy is to embrace the process self growth in the first place. In closing just let me say that ATTITUDE is the difference maker. Check this out:

“The longer I live the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than the past,
than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance,
giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company,
a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play the one string we have, and that is our own attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.” - Charles Swindell

That pretty much sums it up for me. Good luck!

How can you tell? You can't tell? Then you need to get out and volunteer somewhere. Do things for other people so you can sit back and realize what you DO have. If you don't know the difference between being content and truly happy....I don't know what else to tell you.

Happiness comes from hapstance. A feeling dependent on and constantly changing with life s circumstances.
Satisfied is acceptance of an outcome that could have been better, but you re okay with it.
Complacency is settling for the status quo that you re not content with, but you d rather complain about it than do something about it.
Contentment is having a complete peace with your circumstances.
Joy is a deep sense of well-being that is independent of life s circumstances and is derived from a knowledge of spiritual completeness.

Well, I think when you are content, you are satisfied with your life and where you are in life. When you are happy, you may be in a good mood, feel good, and understand that things would get better. However, it's possible to be happy and not content but, it's not possible to be content and not happy.

When one has clarity of the mind. Call it an inner awareness or awakening of internal and external peace. Truly happy and contentment are about the same.

"The way to find out about happiness is to keep your mind on those moments when you feel most happy, when you really are happy - not excited, not just thrilled, but deeply happy. This requires a little bit of self-analysis. What is it that makes you happy? Stay with it, no matter what people tell you. This is what I call 'following your bliss". - Joseph Campbell
