Go ahead dude, keep asking the question, keep scoffing. Only those who wish to remain ignorant fail to see what is happening. Laugh now, you'll be with the rest of us in time.

I think this quote from Coby Beck explains it pretty well:

"It is true that there were some predictions of an "emminent ice age" in the 1970's but what does this tell us about today's warnings?

A very cursory comparison of then and now reveals a huge difference. Today, you have a widespread scientific consensus supported by national academies and all the major scientific institutions solidy behind the warning that the temperature is rising, anthropogenic CO2 is the cause and the warming will worsen unless we reduce emissions. In the 1970's, there was a book in the popular press, a few articles in popular magazines, and a small amount of scientific speculation based on the recently discovered glacial cycles and the recent slight cooling trend from air pollution blocking the sunlight. No daily headlines. No avalanche of scientific articles. No United Nations treaties and commissions. No G8 summits on the dangers.

There quite simply is no comparison, I'm sure you could find better evidence of a "consensus" of a coming alien invasion."

You are right, in the 70's scientist thought we were headed to another ice age because we had been in a warming period for longer than ever before. So an ice age was thought to be due.

But with more research since then, the majority of scientist now believe we are headed for a global warming period mainly because of all the fossil fuels we burn in cars and coal and oil electric plants. We are putting out a lot of carbon dioxide which is causing the average temperature to rise. One effect is the melting of the polar ice cap that is happening now.

Both its called a major climate shift..The climates are shifting due to global warming no fault of ours by the way .Mother nature is causing the polar ice caps to melt and then the planet is warming in other areas and will eventually cause another ice age..Its the planet continuing to change as it has for billions of years.. nothing really new

Wouldn't it be nice to live in a world free of fossil fuels? Wouldn't it be even better if we didn't have to pay utility bills?

Wind and solar are used extensively in the Netherlands, and those people also recycle 90 percent of their trash. It's a beautiful place to visit.....compared to our smoggy, trashy, power lined world....Americans used to be so inventive, now we add a cell phone to a computer and think we've created something new....BAH!
