I am in my 30's so I grew up in the 80's and 90's. Yes, kids have really changed since then! When we have kindergartners swearing, spitting, and stabbing teachers there has been a major change in the youngsters. The biggest issue I ever faced as a kindergartner was not disappointing the teacher. I did my student teaching in a kindergarten classroom last year, and boy, kindergartners are not the same!
Even the teenagers and preteens have changed dramatically over the course of the years. I am a fifth grade teacher, and when I recall being in fifth grade, we never dared talk to teachers the way that fifth graders try to talk to teachers today! Luckily for me, we are still allowed to spank in the school where I teach (with parental consent); unfortunately, many teachers are faced with the parents' mentality that teachers are baby-sitters and that the school is responsible for the children's behavior when it is actually the parents' faults for their children's behavior. If parents would quit acting as if their children do no wrong, we'd have better behaved children today!

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "youngster". Are you talking about pre-teens, or are you talking about college age kids?
I guess it really doesn't matter which age group you are talking about. When it comes to being human the more things change the more they remain the same. The only difference between any given (younger) age group now and during the 80s is how they choose to manifest their discontent with the "establishment". Of course, eventually all of them grow up to find out that perhaps they didn't have quite enough perspective in their younger years to fully understand why things are the way they are.

The difference is that youngsters now have cellphones and internet access, which didn't exist in the late 80s and early 90s.

Hmm.. when I was growing up during the late 80's and early 90's, boys were icky, we only wore one-piece girly flowery kiddy looking bathing suits, and we thought swearing was the worst thing you could do ever.. now young kids are getting "boyfriends" and wearing string bikinis (i actually saw a 4 year old in an itty bitty string bikini) and they seem to be actively trying to act older than they really are. A lot of them are swearing and doing bad things at an earlier age.. not sure what is to blame.. parents, media/tv or time change.
Kids today do seem to be getting worse though...

I sort of missed the late 80's and early 90's. I do know they are way different than in the late 60's early 70's. More people stood up to give their opinions and gathered together to express them then.

Well I know when we were kids, "bumhead" was a pretty bad name to call someone... now 5 year olds seem to have the whole vocab down. But honestly, I don't know if they have changed, or maybe just I have changed...
