You're mistaken about the immaculate conception. That refers to the doctrine that Mary was kept free from the taint of original sin from the moment that she was conceived so as to be pure enough to carry Christ in her womb. She was indeed the true Mother of God inasmuch as she gave Christ His human flesh at the same time that He was still divine.
And we ask Mary for her intercession so that God will respond to our needs. Jesus loved His mother very much on earth according to Gospel accounts. . .and you can bet that He still does in Heaven. I have no doubt that He listens to her petitions and helps those of us who have asked for her prayers.
She's a member of the Communion of Saints, so we can ask her to pray for us just as we can ask any other Christian believer for their intercession. Hope this clears up the confusion.

+ Mother of God +
Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, who is God the Son, and therefore can be addressed as the Mother of God.
This is similar to a commoner who marries a king and becomes the mother of the next king. She is entitled to the title Queen and Mother of the King even though she is not royalty.
Nobody two hundred, five hundred or a thousand years ago would have been confused about it. But this is hard for people to understand in these times where royalty and kings and queens are few and far between.
+ Immacualte Conception +
Catholics believe in the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
When the angel Gabriel called Mary, "Full of grace," Mary was already full of grace.
When the angel Gabriel said, "The Lord is with you," the Lord was already with her.
The Blessed Virgin Mary was in a state of grace before she says "yes" to the angel's question and before the Holy Spirit came upon her for a different purpose.
When did Mary's state of grace begin?
Catholics believe this state of grace was with Mary since her Immaculate Conception. This means that Mary was conceived in the normal way (not like Jesus) but that she did not inherit original sin.
God prepared her for her later role as the mother of Jesus.

The Virgin Mary was the mother of Jesus, through the interception of the Holy Spirit, for the purpose of having Jesus being born of flesh for the Salvation of man from sin.
For an advanced incubator to be of value, there still must be a life placed into it to grow to term. Thus you have answered your own question Of the Virgin Mary being the mother of the second person of the Trinity.
Mary has the powers of a Mother, thus prayers to her are for a mother to intercede with her Son and respond to the one who originally prayed to Mary and answer that person's prayers of requests.

It is actually basic algebra:
1.. Mary is the Mother of Jesus
2. Jesus is God; therefore,
3. Mary is the Mother of God.
The title "Mary, Mother of God" is more of a statement of the divinity of Jesus than a statement about Mary. Look at the phrase this way - "mary, the mother of GOD"
The immaculate conception is a doctrine that states that from teh moment of her birth, Mary, though the special grace fo God, was kept free of original sin at the moment of her conception.
I would not want to answer to Jesus Christ for calling His mother "just a vessel" or "an advanced incubator".
Mary has no divine powers. She hears our prayers and prays to her son on our behalf.

Mary is the New Ark of the Covenant in a way. She carried the Word of God, since Jesus is the Word made flesh.
Did God take on a human body? Yes.
Does a human body need to grow within a mother? Yes.
Does the unborn child need nurishment from the mother's own body? Yes.
Do you refer to your own mother as an incubator?
We don't pray TO her, we ask her to pray for us. Catholics do not worship Mary and the saints, that is a lie made up by Protestants.
Catholics worship only God, and He is the Trinity.
He is God, the Father.
He is God, the Son.
He is God, the Holy Ghost.
One God who is three persons, not three Gods as Protestants would have you think.

Immaculate conception does not mean virgin birth.
The Immaculate Conception is a Roman Catholic dogma that asserts that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was preserved by God from the stain of original sin at the time of her own conception. Specifically, the dogma says she was not afflicted by the lack of sanctifying grace that afflicts mankind, but was instead filled with grace by God, and furthermore lived a life completely free from sin. It is commonly confused with the doctrine of the incarnation and virgin birth, though the two deal with separate subjects.

these are multi-faceted questions.
1. the immaculate conception refers to Mary's being born free from original sin. it has nothing to do with her conception of Christ.
2. Mary conceived through the power of the HOLY SPIRIT.
3. Mary does have powers. I personnal do not pray to her because i don't believe i'm worthy enough to seek out help from the most popular female to ever have lived on the face of this earth.

You could say any mother is the vessel for her child.
Mary is the mother of God. This is a true statement though it is a mystery because God always was but when He was made flesh He was not made from the dust of the ground but from the seed of the woman. Though it is the man who carries the seed; this was a virgin birth.
Ok the argument will be: True, Mary is the mother of Jesus the man but not Jesus who is God. This is where you have to put on your theological hat on. Jesus is not half man and half God, or part of either, or most of one. He is all God and all Man. You can’t divide Jesus up and say this part is man and this part is God because Divinity shares it’s attributes with His humanity and vise versa. So God died on the cross even though God never ceased being. God was born though He always was. All the fullness of the Godhead dwells in Him bodily though the universe cannot contain Him.
This is not to say that Mary is deity no more than the Pastor is who preaches Him.
For we do not proclaim ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves your slaves for the sake of Jesus. Because it is God who said, "Out of darkness Light shall shine," who shone in our hearts to give the brightness of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. Isa. 42:6, 7, 16 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the excellence of the power may be of God, and not from us;
(2Co 4:5-7)
Paul as a preacher of Christ said that he is nothing but an earthen vessel that bares the treasure of Christ to the people. He gives Christ through Word and Sacrament, through the Spoken Word and the Visible Word to the people. The is what Mary did and the Angle said that she will be called blessed and she is. For Christ is the Blessing and He is also given to us for our salvation especially those who believe.
I do not believe in the Immaculate Conception but I do believe the virgin birth. Jesus was the Savior of Mary as much as of me.
Ps. I am not answering as a Catholic but a Lutheran.

Well, you're not as far off base as some of the questions on this topic! :)
Do Catholics elieve mary is the (virgin) Mothr of God--Yes. And the rest of your question on this point is quibbling--she bore and raised Jesus--she's His mother.
Catholics do not, strictly speaking, pray to Mary (or any other saint) in the beleif that she has power (at least they're not supposed to. But, since she (again, and others who are in Heaven -- or that we believe are--the "saints") the idea is that they are in a position to "intercede"-add their prayers to ours. Thus, the idea is (to put it informally) the Virgin Mary presumably has Jusus' ear if anybody does--so her intercessiion (prayers) would weigh heavily.
Granted--some Christian denominations--including many who revere Mary highly--think prayers should be directed only to God/Jesus/the Holy Spirit. But that's the Catholic doctrine. Uh--just to makeit clear--Mary is NOT seen as having any power on her own--only through God.

Mary was the mother of Jesus (God Incarnate). she was not the mother of God, the initial being.
Also, one should not pray to Mary for any thing. She is dead and gone. She is not mightier or equal to God.
She has no"powers". People pray to her because of the fact that she bore Jesus. But she is not different than Job, Jeremiah, Ruth or any other of God's believers who are now in Heaven.
Remember God is a jealous God, why bypass Him and pray to someone else?
