They call it "Thirsty Thursday" because most schools have classes that are on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays. (Occasionally you'll get the stupid community college that has Friday & even Saturday classes...been there, done that...ugh!) Since friday is open then they're free to go all out & have fun on Thursday night because the college weekend has pretty much started now. I think it's also one of those things where you're thinking "Finally! The week is pretty much over...here comes Friday & the weekend! YAAAYYYY!"

There could be several explanations... a lot of college towns have Lady's night (or drink specials) on Thursdays. Karaoke is popular on Thursdays as well, the live entertainment is saved for the weekend. Also college students will try (I'm guilty of this)tailor their schedules so that Fridays are mostly if not wholly free of classes. A lot of kids also go home on the weekends to do laundry and raid moms' fridge, and so they get the partying done before hand!!

The part about Friday being a week-end day is true, but a lot of students go home on weekends too. So Thursday was the day before they leave to go home for the weekend. If you're not at the college on Friday night, you won't be able to party then either...

Where I went to college, there were very few Friday classes. Most classes were MW or TTH.

Thursday is also good because many places run college specials this night and even if you did have a Friday class, you know that you only have to make it through one day until you can sleep the weekend away.

Maybe they don't have that many Thursday classes. Or they're celebrating National Freedom Day. My weekend in college went from Thursday to Tuesday. Occasionally I would have a small party on Wednesday.

We always used to call it "Thirsty Thursday" or "Trashed Thursday". Most of us only had classes that were on Mondays and Wednesdays, or Tuesdays and Thursdays, so Friday was open as part of the "weekend". definitely not he smartest thing I ever participated in, but that is how we justified it.
