I have had many cases of urinary tract infections and bacterial vaginosis in the past. They began when I was about 17. I'm 22 now and have an acute burning feeling when I urinate and slight discomfort randomly throughout the day. I don't drink caffine, but when I drink alcohol it doesn't seem to affect it or make it worse in any way. There is also no blood in my urine. I was on antibiotics when I was diagnosed with a UTI in November which cured the really painful symptom but for some reason I don't feel 100% better. Could I have IC or could it be something else??

You'd have to have an exam by a urologist to know for sure. I hope you don't because it's a chronic, symptomatic, miserable condition.

Do you take Vitamin C? Some people with irritable bladders get relief from Vitamin C because it protects the bladder lining and promotes good bladder health. You may also want to drink a cup of cranberry juice each day, or take cranberry pills, which helps because it makes the urine more acidic and prevents bacteria from sticking to the wall of the bladder.

Have you changed laundry detergents or soaps? Some of us can use only one type of detergent or body soap because of the irritation we experience otherwise. I can use only Dove soap and Wisk laundry detergent because of problems in the past. Also, scented toilet paper causes problems for many women. You'll want to make sure your panties have a cotton crotch to prevent irritation from other fabrics.

Make sure you're drinking lots of fluids during the day. You may want to do another urine test to make sure all the bacteria was killed by the course of antibiotics. You may be someone who needs to be on a low dose of antibiotics on a regular basis. Give your doc a call. You may be able to prevent a chronic problem by nipping this possible infection in the bud. Good luck!
