Sure a person can and should form a personal relationship with God thru Jesus. And definitely that should take priority over a spiritual leader or church. Leaders and church members are just people and you can learn from them, but don't put your trust in people, put it in God.

Not quite sure what you are saying but...
There are two senses of the word church
1. The universal sense - this is every Christian in the world
2. The local sense - this is a group of christians in a local area who come together.
The first is what is needed to be saved. You must be a part of the universal church. Jesus came to die on the earth. You must be in Christ to have a father-son relationship with God. To get into Christ one must believe, repent, and obey God's word (i.e. be baptized.)
So yes, you can have a relationship with God apart from the church down the street or some pastor or elder.

God made it possible to become saved by repenting and receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior. Obeying his word is our first priority. His word tells us to love others and go to church. It tells us everything we need to know. Church's and people are not to be followed if they are teaching anything contrary to the bible.

As we know from abuse cases, being a church leader does not make you necessarily qualified to show people God.
Any medium that helps you get closer to God is good, but if you can avoid a medium altogether why not?

The Bible clearly speaks of Christians as being a part of the body. You will never find "personal relationship with Christ" in the Bible.
If you are a Christian you are a part of the body of Christ and you MUST be a part of a fellowship of believers.
Jesus died for the CHurch. The blessing of salvation, grace, and forgiveness is for all those who are a part of his church.

Of course people can form their own relationships. Some involve Jesus, some don't.
