We currently have a bull terrier, and he is very sweet and smart... He has just turned 1 and we were looking into getting another dog. But we wanted to get a small breed. I was looking in to getting a chihuahua, but I want to know if that would be safe cause bull terriers are so strong and playful...
I had a great dane and a chuhuahua when I was growing up and the dane took care of the little one and I guess I wanted to do it again... Or could you suggest a good smaller breed with a bull terrier?

please do not listen to that pharaoh guy above me he has probably never had a bull terrier before.

It depends on how your bullie was brought up, if you socialized him well with other dogs he should be fine, but if your really worried about, most shelters and pet stores should let you bring him in and see how hes goes with the other dogs.

p.s i have a bull terrier and chihuahua living together

Dogs are individuals. There's no way of saying "all Bull Terriers are good" with small dogs any more than you can say "all Bull Terriers are bad" with small dogs.

If you have good leadership in your home, there should not be much trouble introducing a smaller breed dog into the household. You are in charge and make the rules in regards of how rough they may play with each other - your Bullie needs to understand what is and isn't okay.

When you have two dogs, there's always a risk of injury, accidental or caused by aggression - that's kind of a given. When you have a very small dog and a very powerful dog, the risk is greater. You can make it work if you supervise properly and keep them separated if they cannot be supervised.

I want to warn you, bull terriers are wonderful dogs, but they do have a tendency to be dog aggressive. this is a trait that can appear up until 3 years of age, or even later in life. it doesn't mean anything is wrong with the dog or how you have raised it, it's just a trait of the breed. there is no way to know whether or not your 1 year old will change his opinion about other dogs in the future. if you do decide to go ahead and get another, you will need to be VIGILANT in your supervision. never ever (EVER) leave them alone together. best of luck.

Pit bulls were bred SPECIFICALLY for DOG FIGHTING to the death! You would be well advised not to get another dog at all. It is possible to keep a pit bull from killing but you are going against its nature. Pit bulls should be banned in the US as they are now in England. Very unpredictable. Sweet one minute, biting your arm off the next.
