Is there such thing as an online therapist/counselor that a person could talk to? For free?

No ethical counsellor does online therapy.

Counsellors rely on face to face human contact in order for purposeful therapy to take place.

As for free - counsellors do charge for their services. Therapists who provide free service are hired by various government social service agencies so while clients do not pay per se, those therapists do earn a salary.

Counsellors in private practice charge a reasonable fee for their service. Mechanics don't provide their services for free and so there is no reason to assume that therapists should also.

I've been looking around for you, and I'm pretty sure you have to pay to have actual sessions with an online therapist..but there are chatrooms you can go to, who have therapists in it..or even just regular people who like to help. look at the link below..Good luck with everything :)
