Chili can be any of the 3.
Serve shredded cheese (cheddar is nice), diced onions, rice, crackers, beans (if there isn't any in the chili), sour cream, or anything else you like, on the side and let the guests choose.

Chili can be a main meal or an appetizer or a condiment. The trick is when you make it..make a bunch! First night serve with a nice crusty bread rice, salad, and cheese/sour cream on top. Freeze the rest and use on hot dogs..chili, slaw, cheese, onions, (you'll need a fork!)..next serving for a quick lunch or app...spread chili on some tortilla bread with cheese, toast in oven, serve with sour cream and guacamole.

Chili is basically a main meal served with Saltine Crackers or fresh hot Flour or Corn Tortillas. Everybody has a favorite, and it sorta depends on if you're having chili with or without beans. I like crackers with beans in the chili and Flour Tortillas without beans in the chili. That's all you have with it unless you are having "chili, beans& rice", which are 3 seperate dishes that take all day to make, but, I doubt if you are having that....Tortillas, again.
Also people eat chili on hot dogs (bun, mustard, hotdog, chili on top of all that, a little cheddar cheese, relish, chopped onion, catsup...it goes on and on as EveryBody has their own way. Some people even put chili on their burgers.
Well, I could talk about chili all day. We were just getting started, lol.

Make corn cakes/hoe cakes. It is a pancake/cornbread type of thing. I usually serve them right on top of the chili or along side.
1/2 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
tbsp. veggie oil
1 egg
enough milk to make a thick batter
Preheat a cast iron skillet over medium low...add melted butter or margarine to the pan and cook the batter in the butter like you would pancakes.

I always serve my chili in a hollowed out, sour dough bread bowl; topped with mozzarella and or cheddar cheese, sour cream and chives, with a light garnishment of corn chips. A nice chilled Pinot Grigio or Ice Cold Corona, will top it off nicely!

Actually Chili itself is the main meal usually. now what goes good with it..... hmm, i would have to say corn bread, salad and if you want to eat it alone than believe it or not milk is good with it, (not in the the chili itself, but in a glass).

Cornbread
you can serve a salad first, then the cornbread and chili. You could even make mini biscuit bowls to serve chili in. ( the refrigerator biscuits, turn a cup cake pan over, spray with non-stick spray...press the biscuits on it. cook)
