I Spoke with the owner and said she was the original owner and has all the maintenance records available. Is willing to get it inspected by a mechanic. She is an old lady with MS and can't drive it any more. What do you guys think?

Thanks for the quick responses guys! I will be test driving it on Saturday. She said she performed all the necessary oil checks and other mainenance as suggested by Toyota and has the records to prove it. But I will see the car for myself on Saturday.
In the meantime please feel free to add any other comments/suggestions. Thanks.

It sounds good to read what you have written. Check it out though. Compare her sale price to the value that a place like www.kbb.com or www.edmunds.com will give the vehicle. If the price is comparible, then yeah, sounds good. If you are still a bit unsure, then take her up on the mechanic thing!

I would say that's a good find. on a Toyota you can get over 100,000 miles, and the prices isn't bad either. However, the Corolla is small for some people, so think about hat first. But if the size works for you, I would go for it!

I think 98 is the first year of using a timing chain instead of a belt for the cams. It was a good move on Toyotas part. No maint. needed for better part of 200K miles on that. I like the new gen. engines better than the old AE series prior.

EXPECT TO REPLACE STRUT MOUNTS, TIMING BELT, AND MANY OTHER PARTS FROM SITTING. THESE TOYOTA'S DO NOT HOLD UP WHEN SITTING LIKE THE AMERICA CHEVY'S DO.
