I believe there is a God. Creator. And I also believe things evolve. I don't think the first people looked like us. The first animals were different and plants. But I have been looking for answers to where everything came from if not from a creator. Seeds for instance. Where did all the seeds from all the different trees and plants come from? I haven't been able to find an explanation. Did they just pop out of the muck with all the different animals and people? What came first? The lemon or the seed? Any valid sites or books would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you very much for answering my question about Hillary Clinton and for supporting my crusade for awakening the conscience. Your question is very important. Please let me tell you there are two groups about the interpretation of "The One Who Gave us Life" One group, mainly Jews and Christians, believe in a God made at image and resemblance of man; they also believe He is "out there" in Heavens or in other place than us, and is also a "Person" but Perfect Person and has a family, a Holy Son. The orientals believe God is not a Person and the best way to explain about Him, is to keep a respectful silence.
Almost all the Preachers say thinks like: "Because of your sins and my sins, He (The Holy Lamb, The Son of God) become to be guilty. ¡That does not have any sense! And they also say: "Believe in Jesus, ask for repentance and give 10% of your income to the Church, and you will be forgave" And then it happens the same think again and again. It becomes a vicious circle; I think it is the origin of corruption. Instead of that, please dear preachers, be so kind so as to preach the value of respecting our Conscience each day, and please lets make some thing good enough each day, so as to be put in our baggage four our last trip. The best are the teachings and mainly the Example given to us by the Life of Jesus Christ. Lets be responsible of our facts. Do you think it is fair that a big murderer ask forgiveness and believing in Holy thinks will be purified so easy? Or in a better way, lets have each day a responsible way of living, but each day. With the teachings of these pastors, if Hitler had asked forgiveness before dying, he would have go directly to heaven. Is that possible? The evolution is the right answer, and it will help a lot to us to put our faith, our hope and our will in "The One Who Gave us Life" so our life be at His service, and not to surrender ourselves to money as it happens now.

Okay, old lady. As an old man I'd recommend two articles published by the National Academy of Sciences which are available online.

The first is "Science and Creationism: A View from the National Academy of Sciences". The second is "Teaching About Evolution and the Nature of Science". Both are written at the introductory level.

Finally, if you want to explore this in more depth, try the last link to Berkeley's "Understanding Evolution" site.

Please note that believing in evolution and believing in a creator are not mutually exclusive. One can easily believe that evolution is the mechanism through which the creator works. This is the official view of the Catholic church (and possibly others).

As far as the lemon or the seed, the seed came first. Evolution depends on the initial genetic material from which the organism grows. Developing skin cancer because one of the cells of your body mutates does not mean that your children will be born with skin cancer. The thing is, the seed would have been produced by something that was not quite lemon. You can see this in human history with the development of food crops. Human selection, though, can be more precise and therefore work more quickly than natural selection.

Have fun researching.

The answers to your questions are to be found in
THE URANTIA BOOK.

Your questions are good, all people should be pondering these things before departure. Some do earlier, some do later; others fall behind, at least for this life.

In the worst case, some lose life forever.

Your mind is a gift of God and receives the ministry of the Holy Spirit, including angels, in many ways.

Therefore, it is WISE to use your mind and to consider your own ample experience if you are older.

You can get the indicated book in paperback if your library does not have a copy.

Creation and evolution are BOTH correct. God DID create the cosmos and all life therein, though much of the work was -- is being -- done by underlings higher than us.

Christ is the Sovereign and Creator of our universe, the Supreme Director of Rehabilitation for our planet.

Our universe AND our planet have a DESTINY of PERFECTION towards which we are evolving.

We also evolve as persons. Look at history, the progress of science, your own life. "When I was a child...."

In the Heaven of heavens there are one billion perfect worlds already. That is why Christ gave his family a prayer that said "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven...." (i.e., on the heavenly spheres).

In spite of all the pessimists and naysayers, God's will prevails, and it WILL PREVAIL on our planet as well.

World without end. Amen. Amen.

So one point which I, a scientist AND a theologian (one with REAL knowledge from humble seeking), am saying is that all the argument between 'creationists' and 'evolutionists' is a big waste of time. AND they are both arguing from ignorance, mainly partial knowledge.

All questions CAN be answered eventually. That is what Christ implied when he said "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find."

Those who insist there is NO ANSWER to most of these big questions are contradicting Christ.

"If anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask of God..." I think that is in the Book of James, New Testament.

How many actually do this? I did so many years ago, as I am also in your age group. It appears to me, regretfully, that the answer to the last question is about 1 in 10,000.

And few priests and ministers are encouraging others to the same path.

Everyone finds what they are most seeking for, YES?

And they get the results or benefits of that too....

Wisdom is a pearl of great price. No amount of riches are equal to it.

But God has made it available to the simple and poor as well as the wealthy and learned.

Many last shall be first, and many first shall be last.

Flawless justice prevails ultimately.

And MERCY is never exhausted for those who are making progress.

For those who are not making progress: When MERCY is EXHAUSTED, JUSTICE will prevail.

Even Christ mentioned a millstone around the neck for some.

You, me, us, we, all of us will see soon enough that all these things are true. And good, and beautiful.

God is not mocked. And some will shine like the stars in heaven.

It would be more mysterious if life had not occurred on earth. All of the ingredients necessary for living molecules (which are the most common elements in the universe, so there presence here was nothing special) were here, as was the required water-rich environment.

The difference between a ‘non-living’ molecule and a ‘living’ molecule is almost imperceptive. There is no big jump from one qualitative state to another. Rather, the change is found in the bio-chemical reactions (driven by natural processes) of the natural elements in natural conditions.

An interesting hypothesis involves the possible role of the moon, which was much closer to a more rapidly spinning earth when we think life first emerged. The increased gravitational force on the earth’s oceans may have sent thousand-foot-tall waves constantly crashing over land masses, thereby bring more elements into contact with one another and mixing the pot – so to speak.

edit –

And regarding claims of contemporary existence of human and dinosaurs, why don’t you have the creationists explain how a cast made of their so-called human footprints holds over 5 gallons of water (because it is 1.5 ft long, more than foot wide, and .5 feet deep)? There are no such contemporary footprints and those who claim there are either: a). ignorant, or b). liars.

Those are the only two choices. Most are ignorant and choose to believe because of the emotional need to believe. The blatant liars are doing it for the money, and you almost have to respect them for separating fools form their money.

Do you really not know the definition of the words ‘myth’ and ‘science’

Doesn’t it occur to you that when you read your own answer, your ‘creation ‘myth’ sounds really goofy?

However, you are correct about one thing. They both cannot be true. Sorry, Charlie. You lose.

The process of evolution took milliions of years, yep.

Human evolution was caused by specific periods of climatic change in Africa according to research presented at the Annual Conference of the Royal Geographical Society.

New findings suggest that during the long-term trend of desertification in Africa over the last 2.7 million years, there were clearly identifiable wet and humid periods.

A small example of adaptation: African Americans' skin had become lighter.

Note: The thing you've been saying was abiogenesis, not evolution

This is how i see it: God's time isn't necessarily like ours. His day may or may not be 24 hours long. And perhaps evolution is the way its documented b/c to us its very slow. Who knows? i know i've got questions, but the likelihood of everything being chance is very very small. 1 in 100,000,000,000 to the 123 power. a scientist named Roger Penrose (i think) calculated the odds of an orderly universe and not chaos. so there it is. So, there is some greater force that set it in motion. And that's God.

you cant believe both. You either believe all of the bible or none of it.God created everything.Adam and Eve produced the first children just like he created the first tree that bore seeds and produced more trees. He created animals that produced more animals.God created man in his image and God does not change and neither do people.Evolution is a myth and cannot be proven.

um, nothing really "popped out of the muck".... evolution is very complicated. i do know that plants such as ferns were around before seed bearing plants, and then they evolved, so the seed came first (well, a seed like thing)

It is possible to believe in adaptation instead of evolution. This means that you believe species/plants can adapt to their environment etc... but that maybe the whole theory of evolution did not occur and instead creation occured.

To understand the theory of evolution you might want to read Darwin's (the creator of the theory of evolution) book it is called "The Origin of Species".

Another book you might find useful is called: "Red Earth White Lies" by Vine Deloria Jr. and it talks about the scientific myths in evolution. If you can read through the scientific terminology you can get the jist of what the author is saying and I think you will find it suprising!

Species do have variation and change within species but that is it. Naturalistic evolution doesnt exist only but to give atheists hope that God does not exist. It gives no spiritual benefit for the believer to accept naturalistic philosophy and can only serve to hurt your faith.
