She is 16 and suffered for 2 years with emotional disorders. Finally a new psychiatrist prescribed the 40mg prozac and she is feeling great. Now she is having trouble sleeping through the night and cannot fall back asleep. He just recommended benedryl, but I would like to hear from others with the same situation.

Same thing happens to me. I somethimes use sleeping pills but I don't like to use them. Still I woudl rather feel well and tired that awake and depressed!

40 mg of Prozac seems to be a high dosage. Most doctors would not even prescribe any anti-depressant to anyone under the age of 18. Go to a naturalpath and see if they can prescribe something more natural, and not a chemical

benadryl and tylenol PM are not good because you can come dependent on them..i am 16 also and on medicine and dealing with all this since i was 12
i take melatonin..which you can buy at any GNC or vitamin store.
your brain makes it naturally, it just gives you more so it has no side-effects and it really helps with sleep

Its sounds like the drug is disrupting her circadian rhythms, you should try giving her warm milk before she goes to bed or celery. They both have natural chemicals that help you get to sleep. Hope that helps, I wish your daughter the best of luck.

she mite have to be put on a different sleeping pill.she needs something that help her fall asleep and help her stay asleep.
