in all honesty, there is no position that you can do to avoid the pain. depending on who the person is, it's will hurt or not. the best thing to do is be relax, the more tense you are the harder it is to get the tool in, and lubrication. it's like when your inserting a tampon, the instruction say to relax so it can be easier to insert. But after you lose it to the person you care for, it will be all worth it.

On top would give you the most control, the boring old missionary position would limit the depth of the stroke.
Any where you can dig your nails into the balls of the chap would be good as if they get too rough then you could get revenge.

It will hurt no matter how you do it. If you want to lose it without breaking it, you'll want to be on top so you can control depth. If you want to get rid of it completely the first time, have a big boy from behind.
