Hello. I have a 1996 Black Toyota 4runner SR5. It has 144,200 miles. But this is a very good automobile!
It has never been in a wreck, has no cosmetic problems, has had regular maintenance, some new parts and it's fully loaded. It even has a viper security system. I would love to start negotiations at $9,500. I paid $16,000 for this truck! Do you think that this is fair? I had it appraised at Carmax and they said it was in excellent shape. But the man tried to give me $2,000. He tried to take advantage of me!!
Seriously, what do you think is a fair price to sell this truck for? I should charge more with all the extras, right?
Please help, I've never sold a car before and I don't want to be taken advantage of because I'm a female!!!!

Retail value is $5500 to $7700 With an average retail $6800 according to NADA guide. You usually don't get much extra for anything added on a vehicle. Sorry, but I don't believe you will find a buyer for what you want to ask.

You need to check NADA or KELLY BLUE BOOK.
You may think the truck is worth more than half of what you paid BUT it is TEN YEARS old and going on number eleven. Cars and trucks depreciate, some faster than others. You can look up TRADE value- FAIR PRICE and also find out a couple other little details.
Your truck may be Worth what you want but people will go to the web to get pricing.
It also depends on the car market in your area. By best advice...
ask what you want but add the words "OR BEST OFFER".
You can always come down on the price or accept the best offer.
This works unless you are in a hurry to sell. Give it a little time and don't be afraid to let the people looking at it that there are others looking and if they want it, give a good offer. You can always call them back!

Cars are the worst investment. All those extras you put into it do nothing for the value because of the mileage. I think the guy at Carmax is right. A car that is 11 years old with 144,200 miles on it will NEVER sell for over $3000 at the maximum!

Try going to www.kbb.com, www.edmunds.com and input your vehicles info to get an average value of your vehicle, according to your location.
Also, you could try bringing it to a local dealership and see what they would give you for it. It doesnt cost anything to do that.
Each extra is worth a certain amount, unfortunately it is never worth as much as what you paid for it. The security system may be worth more to you if you have it removed for a minimal charge, and have it installed on your new vehicle.
Unfortunately, as much as you love your car it is not always worth what you feel like it is.
Check out the value at those sites and start from there. I used to be an automotive sales person, so I kinda know what I m talking about.
Good luck!

The Kelly Blue Book value for this truck is $7500 at the high end. You are asking too much, but CarMax was way too low. Go to www.kellybluebook.com and put in the specifics for your truck and get an accurate value.

Try putting it in the newspaper ad and see how it goes but you have to keep in mind that the truck is over ten years old therefore the value has gone down regardless of the condition.

Selling your vehicle yourself in an "auto trader" magizene would be your best bet. I went to a car dealerhip once (not carmax) and they referred me to Carmax to see what they would give me for my trade. All of the dealerhsips will low ball the money they give you because it costs them money to store and try to sell the vehicle on the lot. Go to http://www.edmunds.com/ and click on the "used" vehicle selection. I did a search on yours and it was between $6000 and $9000. I would NOT take $2,000!! Unless you want to sell it to me for $2000 I'LL TAKE IT!! Good Luck!!

If you are trading it in its only worth about $4000 give or take a few hundred. If you are selling it I would say you might get $5000-6000. Good luck

Its a Toyota, value, keep it spotless for when you show people, have it professionally detailed you'll get more for it. 9500 is high check autotrader.com to see what something like that is selling for in your area. (extras don't always add value)

Prices are down on gas guzzlers, the market is flooded with them. You will have to take a hit on it, but I think $2K is low. Sell it on ebay.
