That decision is entirely up to you. No one here can tell you exactly which Martial Art is going to fit you best, you have to make that personal decision for yourself. It sounds like you already have though and you're just not sure about what YOU want.

Hapkido utilizes both the "hard" techniques of punching and kicking (general striking techniques) such as the disciplines of Karate utilizes and the "soft" techniques of throws, joint locks, and pain compliance techniques that Aikido uses.

both Aikido and the disciplines of Karate can use throws, strikes and joint locks , but each discipline puts it's own emphasis on tese techniques.

The disciplines of Karate are the most aggressive, whereas Aikido is the leastmost aggressive discipline.

Hapkido lands almost exactly in between these disciplines, because it works on both levels of these disciplines by combining them.

thje only thing I can tell you is go with what YOU want to do, but you can save yourself some time by studying Hapkido since it combines both the hard and soft techniques.

So you won't have to study one discipline then another later on.

It depends on what style of Karate you are talking about. I studied Enshin Karate, and would say without a doubt that it is BAD ***! Those guys are amazing... I also train Hapkido which is a Korean based martial art. Its great for grabs and locks... with only a few of those retarded TKD style flashy never working dumb *** kicks!

Try a few out and see what YOU think is best.

It depends what you want to learn. Hapkido is focused mainly on joint locks and throws, with a little emphasis on striking. Karate is the opposite. Aikido is a gentle form of throwing and joint manipulation, using flowing techniques and smoother transitions to cause someone to lose their balance.

Hapkido is a grappling art from Korea, Karate is a striking art from Japan. You need to decide which you would rather learn 1st. I study & teach Tae Kwon Do which is a striking art from Korea & reccommend it highly. I prefer striking for several reasons, not least of which is that at my age (59) falling down tends to hurt & healing is slow.
