They usually have several vertical layers of thick luscious vegetation. The biodiversity of plants and animals in a tropical rain forest is massive. Because of the heavy rainfall and optimal temperature range, plants grow quicker and taller. Inside the forest is dark because the thick layers of vegetation above prevent sunlight entering the forest floor. Leaves are broad with dripping tips. Epiphytes are common.

They are being cut down faster than they can grow back so the wood can be used and the land can be farmed. Forests have been losing space to the saw for generations and this process is causing severe damage to the biosphere. A thousand years ago most of Europe and North America was dense forest much like tropical forests now are but all of that forest is gone.
