I am a full-time marketing manager and also work extremely long hours. I am still able to find a few hours here and there to volunteer at various projects through my local volunteer center. Your volunteer center provides community service opportunities that match your interests and meet real community needs. These opportunities can be one-time, short-term, or long-term.

Find your volunteer center through one of these links:
http://www.handsonnetwork.org/our-network/
http://pointsoflight.org/centers/find_center.cfm

Projects do not necessarily have to take a long time. For example, my library tutoring project is about an hour and a half one evening a month, and I also lead a nature hike once a month for a couple of hours on a Saturday.

Find out what type of Civic organizations are in your area and find out if any of them offer volunteer opportunities. If there are soup kitchens or homeless missions in your area that's a great way too. Get involved with Big Brothers and Sisters. Basically, ask around and I'm sure someone in your community or city can give you an idea of what's out there for you to lend your helping hand to. Also, if you like animals, most SPCA's are always looking for volunteers. Don't forget hospitals and nursing homes.

Girl Scouts is always looking for volunteers and you don't have to have kids to be a leader or plan events and such.

As a leader, I do that service as a volunteer, and to compound that I have 31 girls that participate and plan service projects for my community with me. I get to instill the value of community service in these girls (who will pass that value on etc...)

Nursing homes are always in need of volunteers. Just people to pop their heads in the doors of residents just to talk to them. They get SO lonely and you get to hear some really interesting stories from them!

There are SO MANY places that need volunteers. Find one that works for you.
