Dogs have a hard time distinguishing people by appearances especially at night... try leaving a light on so that your dog can see who it is who is coming in the house at night, also make sure to do something to signal it is you like saying hello or jingling your keys in the lock before entering to help your dog recognize you. Other than that I suggest a trip to the vet for an eye exam, and some vet advice because either you are doing something wrong, or your dog has a medical problem.
PS the older a dog gets the more likely they are to have vision loss... dont put your dog down until you determine it isnt an eye problem or other medical problem that can be treated.

I am a Dog Behavior Consultant. Dogs see better than people at night. It's not true that dogs don't see well in the dark. That is a "wives-tale". Does your dog get any excersize? How long do you leave him alone? When you come home, are you feeling scared that he may attack you? If you are scared, that fearful energy is why he is coming after you. Dogs have it wired into their DNA that if a creature gives off fearful energy they will come after you. If you can get yourself to be more confident when you come in, that will help. If your dog does come at you, DON'T step back or back off, that makes it worse. You might try taking a dramtic step towards him, and giving him a "bark" of your own. Show him you are not scared and not going to stand for that kind of behavior. Also he MUST MUST MUST be walked every day by you. HE NEEDS LEADERSHIP!

If you wish to keep this dog , then I would suggest professional help for you and him. This is not common or executable behavior of any pet. Have your vet check for hearing or sight problems first. Realize some breeds are more aggressive. I suggest obediance trainging for any pet or animal . You must get this under control. as soon as you can. In some states hospitals have to report animal attacks. Please do not pass this Pup on to any one or a shelter until you find out what the problem is.

For the person who said that The Dog Whisperer is not a good dog trainer, is entirely wrong. Cesar Millan teaches Pack Structure, and only through solid pack structure can you control a dog. People who bash Cesar Millan are people/trainers who have NEVER dealt with or FIXED aggressive, handler aggressive, dominant dogs. I do not watch The Dog Whisperer very often, but I have seen a few episodes, and he's right on the ball about pack behavior. I'll take on any trainer who does not or want to understand pack behavior. If you want to bash me for saying this, bring on the aggressive-dominant dogs, and let us see who is the one who will be able to control it.

Are you doing anything those times which would make you smell differently? I went out to a farm years ago and played with the horses. when i returned home, my dog did NOT recognize me and backed away.
I would also have him checked for hypo thyroidism. I've heard many comments from owners who had dogs with thyroid issues with aggression issues that were resolved with thyroid control medication.
if this doesn't help, get a behaviorist in quickly!

When you walk in the door can he see you? if hes already been trainned then train him again just on that one specific thing. Have you trainned him? If not then dont put him to sleep because its not his fault. Get a more serious dog trainner that knows what hes doing to fix this problem. Dont train him ur self there are pros at these types of things.

Thyroid disease is one of the most common health problems we face today. From a practical standpoint, there are many ways to approach this issue. Learn here https://tr.im/v3fh3
Hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, is a very common problem, and there are many reasons for this, including drinking chlorinated and fluoridated water, and eating brominated flour.
Chlorine, fluoride, and bromine are all in the same family as iodine, and can displace iodine in your thyroid gland.
Secondly, many people simply aren't getting enough iodine in their diet to begin with. The amount you get from iodized salt is just barely enough to prevent you from getting a goiter.

there have been some tremendous concepts about warm water bottles and that i might want to also propose a wheat bag, in spite of the undeniable fact that the in uncomplicated words ones I have had are made with lavender which i guess will be ugly as a scent for toddler. Get some low-priced smooth blankets for her to nest in (like the fleece blankets you'll get from Ikea tremendous-low-priced) or make her a suitbale resting position if she shows no interest in nestling into them. you are able to also pick to attempt an area heater to maintain a warmth room temperature, and a dropper to get water into her, or moist nutrition (mashed, or with water extra, or both) or poultry boiled down right into a broth (to grant food and water in an alluring meal) She might want to do properly to be soothed, basically sit down such as her and talk quietly or basically have her on your lap. i imagine the organization will do her psychological state quite sturdy and help her recuperate bodily. even perchance some organization from Kale might want to help her and convenience her. he's a better half and saved her existence. Your canine is a hero, this is beautiful to work out that he rescued her. some canine might want to have grew to change into on a kin cat once injured. i do not imagine offence change into meant even as it change into reported to maintain her in. regrettably this incident shows why its so troublesome to allow a cat out. Kale likely saved her existence in spite of the undeniable fact that it does no longer always be the case. also, after her trauma she might want to desire the interior. sturdy success and that i wish she recovers properly.

it is your fault ,he does not recognise you maybe when you arrive
do you whistle and let him know that it is you
have you trained the dog
have you loved the dog .do you feed it
does not seem fair to kill a dog because of your own mistakes ,better give him a away.
never in my life had a dog that bit me on purpose
but the neighbours dog wags its tail in the day and tries to bite me at night when i go past
all dogs after dusk undergo a personality change
they do not see very well and relly on smell and sound
teach the dog a wistle ,that you do all the time you get near it
so that it knows who is coming around
when i put on a different coat ,walk differently i can get right up to my dog that is violently barking and wants to kill me
but as his nose touches my leg ,he knows it is me and it is wagging tails and cries of joy

Joe Nova is correct, he hit all the correct points on this one, as for the guy that said watch the "Dog Whisperer" that guy is a quack, almost everything he teaches is wrong, credible people (dog) trainers laugh at him.
