Is it a boy or a girl? For my boys, I put cheerios in the pot, and had Dad show them how to "dunk" them, for my daughter, she wanted big girl frilly panties, All 3 were trained really easy, but I know thats not the norm.

What we did was buy the potty and let them use it if they want to. We didn't make a big deal about it. Once we knew that she knew when she had to go and how to use it, we did a pants-off weekend. She cried the first few times, but we just didn't let her get up until she had gone. Afterwards, we made a huge deal about how great she did: called grandparents to tell them, gave her rewards, said how proud we were. No matter how much of a fit she threw, when she finally did it, we made a huge fuss over it.

Within a week she was daytime potty trained. She has accidents every now and then, but they are few and far between.

When my daughter was a toddler, and aware of her need to go #1 or #2, I stayed home with her all weekend, and kept her diaper/pull up off of her (except at night) and she would run and bring me her diapers when she needed to go, but instead, I'd take her in to the bathroom and have her go there. She was pretty p.o.'d the first day - but by the middle of the second day, she had the idea. And then we just went with regular underwear, regular reminders "Sweetie, do you need to go potty?" , and giving her a chance to use the potty at regular intervals - like during shopping, always having her try to use the potty before we left the house, a restaurant, store, etc.

I just potty trained my 2 and a half year old daughter. I thought she would never do it but finally she is!. I just put underwear on her and I told her that if she goes on the bowl I would give her a surprise. She went on the floor so that night NO SURPRISE so she knew if she didn't go she was not getting anything and 2 days later she started going. I would not recommend yelling and screaming at the child if he/she has a "accident" I did that and it didn't work but when I just talked to her nice and said it was ok and this and that she went. Good Luck it is not easy and it takes patients which children have a lot of.

Show them books and videos about it. Buy big kid underwear and create a lot of excitement. Bribing with jellybeans is also great motivation! I am in the process right now and using some great advice from Super Nanny. Put you child in regular underpants, if the wet them change them and explain that they need to use the potty. Put on a new pair and keep on doing that. Only use diapers or pull ups at bedtime and nap-time. Seems to be working for me. Good luck and your kid being ready is 90% of the battle.

I know it sounds bad but it really does work...just bribe him with a treat, like gummy bears, when he misses put him on the potty and tell him that he goes there and wait till he does then reward him. and go over board, tell him what a good boy he was, then give him the treat. Tell him he can have some every time he goes potty on the toilet. Good luck!

Wat I did was set a timer for every 45 mins...and just let them sit for a min or so telling them what they r supposed to do. When they hop off....set the timer again. It only too my boys 3 days of doing this and they were trained. Hope it works for you as well. :)

Every time he goes on the carpet, tell him no and bring him outside and leave him there until he goes again. Tell him he's a good boy or a good girl after they do that.
