8 weeks is the absolute minimum...10 to 12 weeks is better. The puppy gets more time to be socialized with its littermates & mom, and the upside for you is that it will have slightly better bladder/bowel control. Also, personalities are more apparent by 10-12 weeks, so you can make a better decision about which one is right for you.

Normally, breeders cannot legally release a puppy that is less than 8 weeks old and has at least one of its required three puppy vaccinations. This is to insure that the puppy is well-weaned and healthy enough for adoption.
If possible, wait until the puppy is 9 or 10 weeks old because pups don't usualy start showing their true personalities until they're about that old, and you'll have a better idea of what you're getting yourself into.

like most puppies, breeders won't let you take him home until 8 weeks. And if they do let you, you shouldn't take the puppy or work with the breeder. No puppy should be taken from it's mother and put into a new home until it's at least 8 weeks.

any breed of dog and any reputable breeder will not let a puppy leave its mother until at least 8 weeks of age. any younger is not good. a puppy needs to stay with its mom and littermates to learn important things.
