I am surprised to hear a vet say to breed her in a couple months. She is still too young, and needs more maturing time, both mentally and physically!

In addition Goldens are a breed that can have hip problems (among other issues) and therefore you will want to make sure that her (and her chosen studs) hips are Xrayed and OFA certified prior to breeding her which cannot be done prior to the age of 2 Two years of age is the ideal time to breed her with the help an experienced, reputable breeder as a mentor.
Heat seasons generally last about 3 weeks, and dogs tend to cycle every 6-12 months.
Good Luck!

The kennel club likes all new mums to be over one year old when they have their first litter. Her season should last three weeks. She will bleed the first two then nothing for the third week..this is when she is receptive to mating..so DONT take her out!
If you want to know all there is about breeding there are some good factsheets on the kennel club site www.kennelclub.org.uk
another great book to get is ' the book of the b.itch' a must read for anyone interested in breeding. Most of the questions you have your breeder should be able to answer for you, you should be talking to them now and getting as much information as possible before you commit to breeding her. There is a lot of risk involved with breeding dogs..theres every chance you may lose your girl through a pregnancy or labour gone bad...also make sure you keep your girl as clean as possible during her season, as if she contracts pyometra( womb infection) she will have to be spayed and you won't be able to breed from her anyway.
Speak to her breeder. I wish you all the luck as you seem to be responsible finding the info before you begin..well done for that...

hi, they season changes depending on size of breed, i have chihuahuas they only have about 10 days but i think yours could go up to 28 days.

Regarding breeding your breeder should help you as there are lots of problems to look out for, i would wait until her 2 or 3 rd season, because she is really still a baby her self.

She should come into season again approx 6 months time, so she will have 2 seasons a year. Hope this helps.

Regarding this season if you take her out during this time, you need to be very careful of other dogs, as a boy will try very hard and you would have a job to part them, i wouldn't let her of the lead during this time, i don't take my girls out during season, but because they are small the back garden is ok for them to exercise, which is a bit different for you.

Good luck.

don't breed her until she is 2 years old minimum. You will have to have her hip scored and eye tested first. Why would you want to breed her? All dogs come into season ever 6 months. It honestly doesn't sound like you have enough experience to breed a litter. Are you prepared to have 8-10 large pups in your home, each peeing and pooing 5 times a day? Your whole house will stink!
You have to have one room set aside for her to have her pups. You can't just put her in a bed in a corner of a room where people come and go.

wait until she is around 18mth to two years old its best for the b**** as if she is to young she may not cope being a mum and then if she rejects the pups you will have a problem so just wait a bit longer my dear its the best im a reg breeder i breed bichon (its worth the wait) and as for the b**** and comeing into season it should be every six months but can change may come into season early or late never realy tell make a mark on your diary and then you will know when about she is due next time if you count six months you wont be far out and as for the vet alice m who said in two months what is she on about if your b**** is in season now then how can you mate her in two months i wouldnt want her to be my vet

Bitches generally come into season every 6 months, the best time to start breeding a b itch is usually 3rd or even 4th season, or 2 years old.

Normally a dog can be in season for nearly four weeks..the kennel club say that a b*tch should have at least two full periods without mating..and should be two years old before the first litter is born..If you are going to breed the golden retreiver, make sure it's from a reputable breeder stud dog..with pedigree papers..and if possible through the kennel club..DO NOT BREED DOGS EVERY SIX MONTHS..this is not allowed by the kennel club..normally every other year..if then..breed to perpetuate the line of breed..not for monetry gain..

Remember a dog is for life not just christmas..

I used to breed Goldens they are in heat 3 weeks one week pre one week is when they get pregnant and 1 week out. they come into heat every 6 months. You should wait until she is at least 2 years old and skip a heat between breeding.

They are in heat about two weeks. They go into heat twice a year. My vet told me that my dog who is a pure breed German Shepard should be at least two years old. My Shepard is 4 now and is ready to delivery any day to a pure Golden Retriever. My son who is 11 accidentally opened the door when she was in heat and she bolted out like the house was on fire or something and now we are going to have puppies.. So be very car-full when they are in heat they don't listen to anyone they have one thing on there mind and that is all... Good Luck....

I would think to wait a few more months before you breed her. You could contact the breeders you are going to work with and see what they say, or see if they have any certain age they want to breed at.
