It really depends on how much you want to spend. There is a beautiful Sheraton hotel right on the beach. I think it's pricey though. I drank a $12 pina colada out of a coconut there and watched the sunset.

It's right in the center of everything.
I found a place on www.hotwire.com that was right on the beach. It was a nice 3-star property called The Park Shore Hotel.

To snorkel, take a taxi to Hanauma Bay.

Personally I preferred the Big Island to Oahu.

we stayed at the Pacific Beach Hotel right across the road from Waikiki Beach and we were within walking distance of good restraunts and the International Market Place. Also the hotel had a very good restraunt that served crab legs and prime rib buffet on certain nights throughout the week. and it was reasonably priced too. But they had a three story aquarium in the lobby. Also, they had a desk there that you could go and set up "excursions" to do different things like snorkling and pearl harbor. It was very clean and a great hotel. I would stay there again thats for sure.

Can not vouch for the snorkeling but you might want to try The New Otani. It is at the foot of Diamond Head but still walking distance back in to Waikiki. It has a nice beach right out front. They also have apartment style units. May be on the small side but check it out.

We stayed at the Outrigger and I loved it. It's on the beach, very clean and elegant but entirely comfortable. Some pics on their Website listed below. Snorkelling will not be good infront of your hotel, though people will be surfing there. Hanauma Bay is a good spot for snorkeling. You can drive there or sign up for a snorkelling excursion there. Or better yet - hop a comuter plane for Maui, stay in Lahaina for 2 days and get a snorkel boat over to Lanai and Molokini Crater for a day.

PACIFIC BEACH HOTEL is great 3 story aquarium nice restraunts[about 12 steps away from the beach!! reasonable too!! YOU CAN EAT IN ANY HOTEL } but their was a very nice outdoor cafe stlye restraunt behind the hotel cant remember the name had great steaks and really cheap. very secluded in such a buzy but this was about 8 yrs ago. snorkling in hanauma bay is really about the best place to go you can also rent your gear there if you have none. get there by the bus it runs about ever 15 to 30 mins. the cost then was $2.00 a day for all day dont know what it is now. it will take you to just about every point of intrest on that island and come back and pick you up. have fun

You can try the OUTRIGGER WAIKIKI BEACH. They are right on the beach, and they have 2 good resturants, Dukes, and The Hula Grill. We have stayed there, and the room was excellent, direct oceanfront. As far as snorkeling goes, it depends on the surf, wether the ocean is cloudy or not. Possibly early in the morning would be a good time to snorkel, when the ocean is somewhat flat and clear. Aloha.

I basically moved from honolulu, so hear close... Waikiki is a vacationer charm, so you might particularly locate something intense-high quality and relaxing...without spending a fortune...is impossible. no longer something is quiet approximately Waikiki, for which you're able to desire to flow to Kailua or Kaneohe, 2 of my favorites. in case you in basic terms want to calm down on the coastline, achieve this and zone out everybody else. in case you have anybody defense force that may e book u a reservation...stay on the Hale Koa hotel, that is right next to thr Hawaii Hilton Village (Hilton cost an arm and a leg) that are appropriate on the coastline, no longer too faraway from the Ala Moana mall, or the airport. each friday at sunset the Hilton has fireworks. there's a pitcher backside submarine that docks on the Hilton. The polynesian lifestyle center is an magnificent place to flow to, forget approximately going to a Lua, all those are cheesey!

This would depend on your price range. I might want to look into a vaction rental on the Kailua side of the island. You can get up each morning and go swimming.Check out this website for the local paper...www.honoluluadvertiser.com
