For the winter. If they can't survive in the cold weather, then they fly south for winter and return back for spring/summer.

Its climate because its warmer there. If you want the birds to stay change the temprature.

the north was getting to cold for them
they go to breed ,in greener pastures
and they hop on existing ,to them welknown aircurrants ,to get there .as if hopping on a train
that is why birds get so far around the world.
