Not exactly sure what you are getting at.
Are asking about the different numbering system used by Catholics and Protestants? BTW I believe the Lutherans use the Catholic numbering system. Catholics do not get into memorizing the Commandments in order. You may very well hear a Catholic object to abortion on religious grounds, but a Catholic just would never use the words "the sixth Commandment" in a sentence. We just do not think that way.
Or I might have missed your meaning completely.

Why do you presume only catholics should know this.As far as I can remember God isn't Catholic and Moses who apparently received the ten commandments was Jewish. I get the feeling you don't like catholics very much, well I have never done anything to you that I'm aware of.

2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
3. Remember to keep holy the Lord's day.
4. Honor your father and your mother.
5. You sahll not kill
6. You shall not commit adultery.
7. You shall not steal.
8. You hsall not vear false witness against your neighbor.
9. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
10. You shall not covet your neighbor's goods.
The phrase "Ten Commandments" usually refers to the broadly identical passages in Exodus 20:2-17 and Dueteronomy 5:6-21. It can also refer to the so-called "Ritual Decalogue" from Exodus 34.

I'm a non Catholic Christian and the Ten Commandments are the commandments God gave to Moses on Mount Sinai for the people to follow. Such commandments revolve around acknowledging God, work ethics, social ethics, respecting each other, holding each other up, forbidding bloodletting, keeping one's promises, etc.

Why just Catholics? I bet MOST Christians couldn't quote you most of them, except for maybe, "thou shalt not commit adultery," "thou shalt not steal" or "thou shalt not kill" (I find it a little humorous how some more politically conservative believers have changed that to "thou shalt not murder"...) So many tend to forget the first 5 - especially "thou shalt not use the Lord's name in vain" and "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy" - there goes the Sunday after-church brunch and the 24/7 lifestyle!!!

The majority of christians, Catholic or otherwise, cannot recite them. And there are only 10 of them! I'll bet most people cannot answer this question without looking up the answer. This shows that most people who claim to be religious don't even know the basic principles of their own religion. It's like saying you know how to drive, but you have no idea where the gas pedal is or even what it does.

As a Catholic, I am curious why you only ask Catholics as well????
Cardboard, bad example, just because we don't all have them at the tip or our tongue in order does not mean we don't follow them, they are a part of our own morality, something automatic, we don't have to wake up, recite them all every day to follow them.
It is more like, you don't have to memorize the whole rulebook to know how to play football. Most of our study and Prayer centers on our actions and how they relate to God's will, including the 10 Commandments.
Peace!
